Default Twinscroll headers help needed, PROPER BAFFLED!

Hi all

Right then where to start, I recently bought a set of twinscroll headers (or so I was lead to believe) from a member on here, I have had them sat there for just over 3 months until I finally got around to getting the rest of my parts to fit in one go rather than pissing about taking the same parts off more than once, anyway finally got around to dropping everything off over the weekend to be greeted with wrong manifolds

I originally bought them as mine had a slight blow which I had welded but was not happy so bought these, I firstly went to change the manifold around a week after I received it but when I got under and dropped the original off it was clear that the manifolds were wrong as it wouldn't match to my uppipe, so I called the guy who sold them to me and he assured me they would fit but would need to use the uppipe supplied, I had no reason to disbelieve him hence why they have been sat here for a while as I didn't have the time or space to change the uppipe there and then so decided to not rush and just took the car off the road until I gathered the rest of my parts.

Basically when I put the 2 sets of manifolds side by side, the flange were the manifolds bolt to the uppipe is totally different to mine, it has the same flange as the headers to head flange with the 3 bolt gasket, so they won't bolt to my uppipe, then when all my originals were taken off the uppipe was also totally different, the studs are closer together, its a slightly different shape, it won't bolt to my LM450 because of this reason, the uppipe is also smaller in diameter on the bores than my original and the 2 exhaust ports are closer together, also when I put the manifolds side by side the bores on mine are clearly larger, I can insert 2 fingers right up to my knuckles and have space to wiggle them around on my originals but can only insert 2 fingers (index an middle) which only go as far as the first joint on your fingers aint had chance to get an exact measurement but suffice to say they are smaller, so basically none of my twinscroll setup which is all OE stuff won't match to any of the other setup I have which again is all OE stuff except the blower

The manifolds I bought are mint, and I mean mint all still wrapped in original Subaru heat shields so to say I'm gutted is an understatement.

I have had a look around and can't find anything relating to possibly a different design manifold, so can any of you help me figure out what's going on, I have emailed the guy I bought them off but he has not got back to me, I know he's been online so I'm guessing he's avoiding me :suspiciou: I have sent another email so I'm just waiting for a response which I truly hope comes! I ordered all new gaskets (genuine) to replace the manifold and uppipe but the gaskets also don't fit and according to import car parts the gaskets I have are the only ones they do for a twinscroll so I'm even more confused, can anybody help shed some light on this for me please.

Car is a 2003 blob jdm twinscroll, with LM450 conversion retaining the original twinscroll flanges. When I get home later I will add pictures so you can get a visual reference as to what I'm banging on about

Any help will be MUCHLY APPRECIATED as I'm starting to get frustrated

Sorry for the long post guys

Craig

Looks similar Banny from the pic but can't make out the header to uppipe flange.

Also whilst I remember on the manifold of the new set the flange between header and uppipe is almost directly below the o/s header to head flange where as on mine the flange is more recessed back.

What you thinking bud? Any help is appreciated

Gut feeling is that it maybe a legacy setup, this is a legacy manifold which does look slightly different

I'm home shortly so will stick the pics up.

I specifically asked the guy the first time around if they would fit as I had a gut feeling they were wrong but didn't want to argue as this is quite new to me and had no reason to disbelieve what I was told, just the flange on the manifold to uppipe was enough to get me wondering but was not too concerned as the guy answered my questions and my calls so didn't think twice, I've sent him another email bit he aint logged on yet so I'm just waiting for a reply, and he told me they came from an impreza NOT a legacy which is why I'm having difficulties in sourcing what these are off.

Just out of curiosity did the twinscroll imprezas ever have different design manifolds on different years do you know? As from what I can find I believe they are all one of the same

As you can see they are totally and utterly different I'm hoping this is a genuine mistake on behalf of the seller tbh as I rang him as soon as I noticed the flanges were different, but he explained to me it needed the uppipe to get it to fit, I did say at the time I don't think they would fit and something was wrong somewhere but felt reassured after he told me about the uppipe

Ahhh ffs all I know is they certainly don't fit a jdm blob and seeing as you and banny have said the same I'm guessing that your both correct as your pretty knowledgable guys

Cheers Jura 100% confirmed they are for legacy and not for a impreza.

So lets see what the seller is going to do about this for me, after all I was told they would fit an impreza and I bought them in good faith.

Still hoping this is a genuine mistake but slowly starting to loose faith

They are exactly the same as my Impreza Hatch S GT 2.0 jdm, which as you state are Legacy twin scroll.

So technically they do fit an impreza but only the hatch I take it Paul? So the hatch is where they changed from I take it, and now I'm thinking of it when I rang the guy to explain they didn't fit the first time around I'm sure I heard hatch some where in the conversation which is why I thought they would be ok when he said to change the uppipe, I did ask if they would definitely fit tho and I was assured yes, maybe he was unaware as was I at the time

So these would fit any impreza really but would need the correct turbo to be mounted to them as they run a different flange, would I be correct in assuming that?

Yes they run a different turbo, a vf47 on mine, the downpipe stud pattern is also different.
The set up in the S GT Hatches is basically Legacy 2.0 twin scroll.

Also a full 3l turbo back exhaust system that is twinscroll downpipe and fit jdm model.

I’m not actually sure I’m not in the UK at the minute I’m working over in Poland with work so I can’t check my car, I’ll try do some research and see if the standard headers on a 03 blob jdm have a cat or not.

Unless anyone else can confirm this as being correct or incorrect.

Doesn't have cats they would need to be kittens due to size constraints sitting looking at two here at the minute with no heat shields

Okay that helps me a lot as I wouldn’t need to buy a new up pipe now ? I could leave the oem as it is ? Could you post the pictures on here so I can also see them ?

A twin scroll uppipe would need two cats otherwise it would be kind of pointless? I doubt any of them have cats.
