Insurance - SOS!
#2
Dear Fellow Scoobers,
Please let me know if you ever experienced the same problem and how you dealt with it; or if you just have a tip / advice for me. MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!
The lowest quote I've had so far is £1,200 on a brand new Turbo (some quoted £2k+!). The reasons are as follows:
1. Full UK license only 2.5 years (I've held my Russian license for over 9 years but they say it does not count).
2. No no-claims bonus (I've been in the UK for 3.5 years but had a company car all this time (no accidents or claims). I offered to provide a letter from the company but the insurers again refused to take it into the account).
I've spoken with companies like Privilege, Direct Line, Admiral, TESCO.
PLEASE HELP!

I live in east London (high risk), insured in wife's name ,age 27, 5 years NCB, kept on drive, £1200.
I wore the phone out in terms of shopping around.
Its all about what you drive, where you live and your insurance/claims history.
Good hunting.

Direct Line & Churchill gave me quotes of £540 pounds, but I do live in the wilds of Wales. Churchill insisted you fit a tracker though. CGU are nice and cheap provided you have full NCD, < £500.

Try Catteralls Insurance, a broker in Blackburn, Lancs, on 01254 695055 (I think).
They were the best for me, Terzo, 28 with girlfriend as named driver, Swindon (admittedly low risk), 4yrs NCB, Clean licence £595.
Good luck - I spent almost a week ringing every company under the sun.

Just keep looking until you find a sensible quote....
Imports will usually be "Group 20" [internally they run a much higher scale and it comes in at the high seventies IIRC].
The best quote you get will depends on many things, not least what you do, how long you've been driving, how much you plan to cover per year and where the car will be stored. I got a quote for UKP 3.2k from Privilege. I had to pick myself up off the floor after collapsing in a fit of laughter. Later, Bennetts Elite quoted UKP 900. Much better.
This was with zero years NCB, and a large-ish claim just before [the guy who caused my car to get written off wasn't insured so my insurance company had to shell out the lot.... although it wasn't actually my fault (even in the eyes of the police) the insurers still treated it as such so bye-bye NCB].
So the spread of quotes, even for brokers using the same underwriter, varies wildly. I suppose the fact I had previously been a Bennetts customer and not made a claim (with them) helped :-)
Hope you find a sensible quote soon,
Pat.

Many thanks to all!
I'll probably take a day off work and spend it on the telephone.
Oh, ANOTHER QUESTION - from your experience is it possible to negotiate with these guys or is "take it or leave" deals???
Cheers!

Well, it's not a case of negotiating, more one of lying. Just phone back and say (in an authoritative manner) that you've had a quote £250 less from (insert name of broker/insurance co). They'll almost always reduce their price or offer to match the other one.
Good luck.
Good luck.
