Default Strange request... Dipstick length??

Good morning chaps, could one of you kind fellows please do me a favour in return for some internet respect??

I am after the measurement of a 2001 bug wrx (mine is UK300) from the tip of the metal part of the dipstick to the base of the yellow part of the plastic handle. IE just measure the length of metal part.

Reason i am asking is because i measured the oil level last weekend and it was just on the bottom of the dip stick. so i slung in a litre which took it to the max and about 150 miles later measured it again...

it was in the same place as before!

so im wondering if it has the correct dipstick, the car has had a replacement engine from API in the past (long before my ownership)
it doesnt smell like its burning oil, i can see no signs of it burning oil (bumper all clean etc)

so the dipstick is one thing i can think of that may be wrong.

i have now bought some oil and a filter and will fill with 4.5l and see where we are at!

car drives fine etc, its just my paranoia lol

cheers for any help!!!

the metal part is 476mm long.........

be aware that Subaru's are bad for getting a true reading, need to be totally flat and also ideally left overnight to settle

Yeah i had read that they are a pain to read!
first time it was left a few hours on flat, well as flat as i can get outside my house.
and second time was at work and done after stopping the car for 30 mins....

ill park it on the road next time and get up earlier one morning to have a look.

cheers Alyn

OK, measured dipstick at 476mm - so thanks very much Alyn.

again, oil was only just on the bottom of it, so put in about 1/2 a litre - if that and measured again.... now a bit over the full mark!!

ill do an oil change and go from there i guess and keep an eye on it.
