Dilemma?
Afternoon everyone I'm after some advice if possible. After some deliberation I have decided to sell my classic and buy a new Scooby as soon as I juggle some funds around, I toyed with the idea of jumping ship to an Audi RS4 or RS6 but after weighing up the options decided to stick with a Scooby. The problem I have is this I have seen 2 Scooby's I like one is a 300bhp wrx sti uk model 04 plate with 35,000 miles on the clock in mica blue, the other is from a member on here and it's a Blobeye jdm wrx sti with 58,000 miles on the clock in silver with 360bhp on an 03 plate. Both have history and seem to have been cared for but in not sure on which one to buy, if I wanted to modify them further which has more scope to do this and which one could handle the most power? Do I pick the jdm with more miles and power or the uk wrx sti with less miles and less power? Please help.

All depends where you want to end up with it mate. If your aim is circa 500bhp on a 2.1 then it doesn't really mtter which you choose. Both should be good for 450bhp on standard internals but that's not a given. The JDM's rev to 8k have a slighty closer ratio box and slightly wilder cams i believe. Also has a twin scroll turbo which is meant to be better but i'm not sure of the advantages of that so can't comment. The 04 UK will be a widetrack and with a panel filter, fuel pump, decat and remap could see anything up to around 350bhp. Hope that helps, sure others will be along to elaborate further if needs be...

If you can afford either then go and drive them and have a good nosey around then make an informed choice.
TBH I don't think you'll be in a bad place in either, but if the condition of the jdm is as good i'd be inclined to go for that because of the twin scroll and of course the rear wiper.
The gear box on the JDM is not to everyones liking but I don't do motorways very often so I could live with that.

I would like around 450bhp on either car, but I though the jdm had stronger internals than the uk wrx sti so shouldn't I be able to squeeze a few more horses out of the jdm or am I wrong in thinking that? Also to achieve around 450bhp in both what mods would be needed to achive this. The wrx sti uk model has 300bhp but the jdm wrx sti has 360bhp.

04 jdm wont be widetrack but will have the dccd box unlike the uk car.
the extra track is 10mm on the rear plus 114pcd wheel hubs to accommodate larger wheel bearings (05 on sti cars)

There are a couple of 04 registered cars that are widetrack, one of them is/was on here but yes, generally they are 54 at earliest.
To get either to that power you'll need:
Larger turbo
Front mount
Larger injectors
Induction kit
Three port boost solanoid
Walbro 255 or similar
Decat
And a Map
That's the basics. You should really add gauges, knock sensor, probably an oil cooler if doing track days. Nobody will recommend taking a standard block to circa 450bhp but there are a few that run more. It really is pot luck how long it lasts. To be honest of you done all that and got to 420-30 I'd leave it. If you really wanted more, I'd look at going forged. That's just my opinion and what I would personally do. :-)
