Default Realistically what would i get for £5/5.5K ?

First off i'll apologise if this is the wrong section.

Ill possibly be entering the Scooby world shortly once the evo has gone.
I'll be looking to spend at tops £5500 but ideally £5000 is my budget.

A chap that I know has offered me his impreza wrx on an 05 plate, has approx 40k on the clocks. Only mods he has done is fully upgraded it to full Prodrive spec and gold brembos alround and is asking £5k for it.
Is it worth the price he is asking, or would I be able to get better for the money?? I have a feeling he is pretty firm on getting £5k for it so doubt i'll get any movement on price for it.

Thanks
Oli

There's a P1 in the for sale section for £5k.

Mint sti ra is quite sensible, it's finding one that's the hard part

I bought a 54 plate wide track sti, really clean original car with only minor exhaust mods and 80k on the clock, drives like new and Duncan from racedynamix was impressed how it looked, went and sounded mechanically, i paid £5200 :-)

Bug STI, Bug UK300 or Blobeye WRX for less then £5k and spend your money on it doing it now you want.
Tbf though your mates does sound quite a good price with low miles, PPP and Brembos

Lol i know, it was advertised badly at £5600, i thought it had to be a dog or something wrong but went to look with my dad(mechanic an impreza owner) as it was local and i still cant get over it :-) apart from last 2 services its full main dealer history, few little marks but for year and mileage its brilliant. 2 months on i've done full service, diff/gearbox oils, pads and a remap and loving it! I have some prodrive springs to go on soon too. It's so smooth and nice to drive and the biggest surprise is there's no knocking from the rear shocks!!!

cheers for info so far guys ideally would prefer a newage, although if I went for a classic think it would have to be a 3 door if doable on my budget?

When my evo goes up for sale, will probably advertise on here aswell and see if anyone willing to part ex

What are the newage 2 litre engines like, and realistically what kind of power could I run on one before have to forge it??

As Matty says those 2.0 will usually run 400bhp no sweat.

But remember if you go for a 2.5 Hawk you'll need to forge it just to stop it blowing up at the standard 276bhp...

You need a newage sti then unless you've got deep pockets.

Its not just a stronger engine you get but better brakes all round and a 6 speed box.

I'd go for a classic Type R which has already had the mods to increase power over the standard. I love the classics, saving up for one myself right now, don't both with a WRX just go straight for the STi.

Blob STI for you mate, bug gearbox isn't as strong as blob and may need a refresh at this age, so if you do end up with a bug make sure the box is in tip top condition, and check the front subframe for rust also as they are known for rotting quite badly.

My advice is buy the RA above, a car like that is only going up in value over the next few years.
