Sami they don't all fail, it is just that they are more likely to fail than the older 2.0 unit that we are all used to.
The 2.5 is a great base to create a monster of an engine, you can forge the internal components and fit uprated head gaskets. An engine like that will typically run around 400bhp and is a monster of a road engine.

hold on a minute.
its common knowledge the 2.5 is a very weak engine, once forged its a great engine but this cost 3 to 5 k.
if you buy one expect issues as its very common, there are people that have got lucky but more have not and been faced with a big bill.
if you really want a hawkeye save yourself the worry and buy a jdm version, this has the 2.0 engine still which has none of the problems of the 2.5.

Basically, if you don't want to risk facing a very large bill you should go for something like this if you want a UK Hawkeye.
It has been built by all the right people, Finch have experience in F1...

That will be one hell of a car on a good A road.

Sami the problem is that once the HG has gone it tends to bugger up other components in the engine.
The other problem is that the 2.5 is also prone to piston failures. All performance engines have a failure rate but the 2.5s are prone to these problems if anecdotal reports are to be believed.
Hence the reason it is a good idea to go for a forged engine car, or budget a forged engine rebuild into the cost of buying. Or going for a car with a 2.0 engine, be it a Japanese import Hawk (more expensive, you're looking 12-14k minimum) or an older car such as a blob or bug.
If for example you have £10k to spend, you're not going to get a Jap Hawk with a 2.0 engine. You're going to have to look at getting a UK Hawk for £7k and spend the rest forging. Or go for a Blob / Bug STi.
Or as I suggested, go for a mint car like this one, it's low mileage, 06 reg (I think low tax not the £490 one), absolutely bulletproof engine. And it's going for a very good price!

7-10k depending on how fast they want to sell it really
Iv got a 55 plate hawkeye sti running at around 380 and is still fine,,my only issue was the bolts holding my oil pump together came loose , lucky I noticed (gauges) or it could of been a lot worse ,,,I'm not saying it will last forever but I don't expect any engine to last forever ,,,but when it does give up ill throw a sti8 lump in for £1500 and forget about it again for a while I till that one goes lol

£1000 for a full colour change on a hawk ???
Not for a decent job fella. If you're gonna do it then it needs to be done right or else it'll actually devalue the car. All door shuts, inside the boot, engine bay, underside of bonnet and boot need doing.
Easiest way is to wrap the car and then come sale time you have the ability to peel it all off if thats what the customer prefers.

That is a proper job mate everywhere ,,,they are sponsors for the scooby club I help run so done me a good deal and I have loads done there aswell ,,
Spoke to wrapping company's and they all said the same ,,,you will see blue in the shut lines and was a lot more expensive than 1k
But I agree it has to be right and it will be as I love my scoobs mo than anything and iv got the three I'm keeping so no worries about re selling
