Bug WRX will have steel bonnet from factory, it is thinner gauge steel than the old classic steel bonnets but steel none the less.
You sure you have an alloy bonnet ??
All bugs (uk / jap / wagon / wrx / STi) have alloy bonnets.
I dented my bug WRX alloy bonnet on day 1 of ownership dent man said the desigh is such that it's difficult to get out at the front where it curves over so I left it. eventually bought a carbon one
Maybe im wrong then, but I fitted some aero catches to a bug wrx for a snet member and am sure it was steel, was certainly tougher than the blob STI I did the week before.
Despite the shocking reception of the bugeye (and boy was Subaru quick to change it) they actually got a few things right......STi intercooler, 6 speed box etc. another plus was that all the models were slated to have an alloy bonnet.

All i can say is the bug wrx bonnet was noticeably heavier and much harder to cut than the blob sti bonnet. If it is alloy then its of much thicker gauge than the sti. Infact, my own classic sti alloy bonnet was lighter and easier to cut than the bug wrx.
On a plus note, the classic steel bonnet I did was made of the same gauge steel used to make ships. Bugger that was tough

It's possibly had a pattern / copy bonnet fitted. Not unusual at that age of car.
i have both a wrx and sti sitting on the drive at the minute so i have done a check with a magnet and much to my surprise the magnet sticks to neither bonnet but does to every other panel.
the wrx bonnet did feel a lot heavier when i fitted bonnet lifters though.
My WRX bonnet had a shed load of soundproofing fitted which weighed quite a bit........didn't make much difference to the sound when I got rid of it LOL
Same as on my 2007 Hawk, definitely ally. I have a magnetic torch that won't stick to it. I lifted up a classic bonnet once, couldn't believe the weight difference.
