I've ended up buying a HKS and pipercross filter and can't decide which to fit, anyone tried both? The Pipercross looks more a conventional filter where the HKS is more a foam like filter

I have the HKS filter fitted and the car performs fine. Having said that, I have noticed that the HKS filters don't do well in filtration tests. I'm not sure about the Pipercross filters.
Really doh, Thought the HKS might be less restrictive and aloe more air, but this is a guess not from any knowledge, as regards filtration tests, that would be a very important part to play
I cant see the pics at work, but i dont like foam filters as they degrade and break up.
i have no experience of the HKS mushroom filters, but i did have a pipercross viper i think it was some years ago, that was fully enclosed in a carbon body, and the foam inside did indeed break down and i can only guess got sucked into the engine and the car ate it lol...
that was on an NA car tho, so no turbo to damage.

In all honesty, you will see may be 1hp difference if any, so I wouldn't worry. The HKS does have poor filtration test results though. Stick with a standard one and ave yourself some fuel money!

On that test they said cone filters are the best, so might have to look into one for future, but seen as my ecu is not mappable, may have to stick to panel filter

I've always wondered about the effectiveness of cone filters v's the Subaru ram air filter.
Is a filter in a hot engine bay more effective than one fed by cold air from the front grill?
I've got a prodrive ecu nope it can't be remapped not even the original ecu, i've contact mappers and asked on here its 1998 model and without buying new ecu which cost over £1000, its just on my year for some reason

Surely if you are not even going to map the ecu, there is no point in changing the filter??

Not sure if already already seen it, only problem is don't know anyone who's used them before
Its currently the only method of mapping your car and in my opinion its fantastic value for money.
Much better than the likes of apexi pfc and at £295 plus mapping id even choose this over a simtek.
