Gorgeous car, it's a steep price but it some people's eyes it might be worth it?. I wouldnt pay that but i would make a offer if I had the cash, maybe the price is high to stop all the "silly offers". Some people spend £18,000 on a new fiesta

LOL.
All valid comments though, I agree with blackvenom especially.
21k rebuild though, is that how much it costs?!
I wonder what the bill breakdown is, 10k on parts and another 10 on labour?

Thats RCM prices for ya. 21K engine build......lol.....
The car doesn't really have that great of a spec and the price is knocking on the door of a 22B.

He'll do well to get 10K unfortunately.

I don't think it's worth 18k. That's a lot of money! I do however think it's worth strong money. It's a great spec and looks exceptionally clean!
Bloody cracking car IMHO

£21k for an engin build, does that include a couple of eastern european virgins one to gobble you off and the other sitting on your face while your waiting.

Some people really do have more money than sense, wish I was one of them.

It's too old a car and not enough of a 'collectable' to warrant that sort of money imo.

Everything is relative, so for £18k what else could you get ?

Well:

* A fully forged RB320 (even if you had it forged yourself);
* Type 20 or 25 Hawk
* JDM STi and mod it to Hell and back

I'm sure there's more..................

As nice as that car is I'd struggle to justify paying half that for it.

Were I in the market for an über-build classic I'd be giving that rascal Banny a shout...

That is such a nice car but it's never going to fetch that. As said, £10k tops.

He is actually a top bloke, and has OCD with it.

He did spend an absolute fortune at RCM last year on it. I understand what you guys are saying about the price though, you never get back anywhere near the money you spend on them unfortunately.

It's worth what someone wants to pay , you ain't gonna be buying a new one and if you want what looks like pristine car of its type then why not ask that amount
It's not like there's gonna be loads turn up for sale in that condition , in fact it will probably get less and less , it's no different to asking 20k ( edit that 30k , I've just looked ) for an escort cosworth or 15 for a series 1 rs turbo

There's a good chance scoobys will appreciate in value in a few years time , could think of worse ways to spend 18k
Go out and spend 18k on an insignia or summat like and watch half disappear over 2/3 year
Yeah it's not cheap but it's not as ridiculous as its being made out

The difference is supply and demand. There's a lot more Type R's for sale for around £5k, OK they aren't all prestine (My £2.5k one certainly isn't) and they don't all have RCM built engine's.
As more and more are broken and they become more rare (I keep bleating on about how few TypeR's i've seen over the past 12 months) then the prices will go up.

I'm with you there, it is strong money but if it's as clean as it looks what's the problem? good luck to him I say.

Some of us value genuinely clean original stuff far higher than others, some will just never grasp the concept. Just because one man would spend £5k on an average car, doesn't mean the next man isn't prepared to pay a whole lot more.

One thing's for sure, if I was loaded I'd collect cars. Now, if you want a mint low mileage last of the line Type R, what you gonna pay? I'll tell you, you're gonna pay what the owner wants.

It's strong money but I guess he can hope that an Arab collector wants a minter for his collection! Who'll be laughing then!

What's the OP value the car at? Ok, let's say you find a similar condition one for £9k but you want the best in the business to rebuild that engine..

Even at 18k I see that as a long term investment. Look at cossies, an RS500 went recently for £75k iirc.

I saw all this on a much smaller scale when I put my classic up for sale. You just get people saying "they're worth £1500 coz me mate dave paid that n it's got a dump valve & it's chipped bruv"

Yep, I meet millionaire arab car collectors all the time who are on the hunt for a 13 year old modified impreza. .....lol.....

If you wanted an impreza to keep as an investment it wouldn't be a messed about unoriginal type r thats for sure, especially one thats almost as expensive as the most iconic impreza of all time.

But hey, im one to talk. This time last year I sold my old banger for a figure most thought was crazy so he's got a chance.
Good luck to him, he'll need it.

who would have paid nearly 10k for a mk 2 rs 2000 15 year ago , with a non original flat front , non original 2.1 pinto and twin 40s

A nice car is a nice car modded or not and some will pay strong money if they want it

Lovely car hands down ... but the box and brakes are a joke for the spec

It's not really a desirable motor tbh, apart from the fact that it's in superb condition for it's age The colour and model are littered over the Jap auctions and you would get much more for your money importing a minter

Totally agree mate! For the people saying there two old dont talk wet, let's just see what happens in the future with the prices of pristine examples,, after the bulk of others get broken for parts! And as others said its worth what someone is willing to pay.

Getting cheaper still has more miles on the clock than mine though
Its got a good spec, its just that you don't get your money back on a lot of that, 13k is still steep, it will probably go for 10-11k if he is lucky, a lot a now ropey old things with rot coming through, even newly imported ones are around 8k but with double the mileage.
Trouble is that people have to appreciate it as well, that's getting rare in itself

All as above, plus the fact that he's dropped £5K in one fell swoop says a lot.

He's not suggesting a Part Ex either (might simply not have put that in the ad, I don't know).

"Must sell" did cross my mind.

It's the opposite of the recent thread where the op wanted an opinion of as LOW a price as possible.

Two completely different ways of achieving the same aim.
