Default few Q's before remap!!

After doing a few mods My 04 sti type uk is going to andrew carr wednesday for a remap. even though it was only serviced 2k ago, wanted to change the oils etc just so its on its best behaviour on the day, what oils are people using in their stis, engine/diff etc, i know there will prob be a few different ones mentioned but anyone with a similar vehicle 04 sti type uk will be listened to, cars had full turbo back 3" stainless exhaust, induction kit with cold air feed, and a rcm340 fuel pump. Carrs estimated 340 +/- bhp. any advice much appreciated people.

Hey there,

I am having my 2004 STI type UK mapped on Monday (by Duncan at Race Dynamix). My car is currently at CAMS in Darwen having a few last bits sorted (think this is the place Andy Carr works out of mainly??).

Brian there is just doing an oil change on mine even though it was done a couple of months ago, for the same reasons you mention really. He is putting in 10w 60 Mobile 1 per his recommendation.

Good luck with the map I have heard good things about Andy and was very tempted to use him myself.

To be honest I had been recommended Duncan and on doing some research just felt he was the right guy for the job. That said I didn't know Andy was affiliated with CAMS at the time or that may have swayed me his way. From comments from both there customers I am sure you cant go wrong with either

Steve Simpson supplied and mapped a GEMS I had fitted on a previous Type R I owned about 5 years back or so. Good guy, I did find however back at that time he was so busy was difficult to book for tweeks etc but not sure what his schedule is like these days. TEG were sound guys on my dealings, fitted a clutch in the same mentioned car for me.

I am kinda new back to the scene to be honest having had 5 Imprezas in the past but not one for the last 4 years or so. CAMS as such is pretty new to me but very impressed with Brian not only on his knowledge and enthusiasm but also reasonable prices too

Yup, its a mine field isn't it! Have to admit I always used Millers in my classics, expensive but don't they say 'you get what you pay for'? Silkolene was always highly thought of also a few years ago. All that said as I can see me using CAMS regularly in the future so I am happy to go with what Brian's advice is, I mean that's why you use a mechanic right?? lol

Brian's a legend, absolutely top bloke. His reputation among the Lancashire & District owners' club is second to none.

Yes I can see why Richard, was impressed with his enthusiasm which isn't there in some 'specialists'. I have also acquired abit of a weapon (not picked up yet), but will be taking that down to Brian hopefully next week to get his opinion on and figure out what my plans are with it.

Will need to have a look on the LADSOC not been on for years, be nice to meet up with a few local owners and catch up on the scene abit.

Why are you going for a 60 weight oil?
The oil recommendation you need should be correct for your modifications, 60 is too thick tbh, thicker = more drag = less power and the general misconception is thicker is better is not correct.
I would look at not using a 60 and go fora very good 40 or 50 hot weight if you are running around 400bhp, then ensure you add some decent gauges with oil pressure and temp to see what it's doing.
Look at Miller's, silkoline and motul oils, Mobil 1 just isn't as good

Just to add, Duncan (race Dynamix), is awesome. Had mine done by him at the beginning of August. Awesome work.

Per the above pal, Brian at CAMS recommendation..........just passing that onto the OP as we have the same model. I do hear what your saying, but as has been covered to death on this site, there are a wide varying amount of opinions on oil grades to use, I definately don't think we need to add more wood to the fire on that one lol

Basically its not a good recommendation hence why I said don't use it, plus with winter on the way it will run like a slug and take far too long to warm up.
It may have been done to death but wrong is still wrong no matter what you say
