1st track day advice.
Hi guys, I may be doing my 1st track day next month.
Could I get some advice.
It's at Bedford autodrome, I have an 05 sti wide track tweaked to 353hp so there is plenty of poke, it has tein super street coil overs, and a few other suspension mods.
Anything I should be specifically looking into.
Thanks.
Dan

Hi, it's not booked, I am waiting for my friend to confirm 1st. He and a group of about 5 go every few months along with a van full of tools and set up camp for the day. Now I have a car that I'm confident won't die, im up for trying it. 1st idea was to set the rev limiter to 6.5 k to save lunching it lol.
I'll read the thread now.

Sounds good. It always better to go with group of friends rather than being alone especially at first time :-)
Could you please let me know once you'll know the date ? I've got a £150 voucher to use on any track in UK so... We could do a few rounds together :-)

That would be awesome to go round with another scooby. The car has a 3k engine rebuild from scooby clinic and has been looked after by tsl motor sport and Roger Clark motorsport. So it's well sorted... The brakes should be fine ( brembo's ). I did have defi gauges installed in my last car but my brother has that now so I need to get some gauges 1st.... I even hate having it on the road without them...
My line of thinking was to give it a service and maybe get hold of a set of cheap wheels with some half decent tyres and have a crack.

Only thing you really NEED to do for a trackday is get better brake pads as the standard ones will ruin your day within about 10 minutes.
I've got the same car as you so don't have to spend much, i've got CL5+ on the front of mine for £140 from godspeed and they're cracking on track and nice on the road too.

Your mirrors!
If its your first trackday, then no matter if you think your car is fast, there is always someone going faster.
Bedford is a pretty quick circuit, a few corners can catch people out so take it easy to start with and build up confidence.
I dont know if a guy i know will be there but watch out for a white westfield if its dry. That bugger will hit over 160mph down the back straight lol

All my track days have been on bikes but i guess my advice will still be the same, dont try race people if they come past you. Get to know the circuit in the first few sessions

check Tyre pressures, they will increase when hot, check fluids are full. enjoy, and don't push i to hard. its hard to remember its practice not racing, i have same thing on bikes as race and fun days, trying to remember they are different lol

Dont stay on the track too long if its an 'open pit' none sessioned day. 15mins is more than enough per session then let you car cool down for at least half an hour. Try and park on the flat and leave handbrake off or you will warp your brake discs in no time. Try and keep fuel above half a tank if some high G corners. Most importantly Have fun!
