Default mot failure

hi all,

im pretty sure this would fail an mot at the end of the month,

the outside edge is bald, the rest of the tyre is about 2mm.
i think the blad area creeps too far into the 3/4 rule area.

can anyone with mot knowledge please confirm?

andy

The central 3/4 thing may pass it, but probably not.

You got a spare? If not, chance it and see what happens

Car tyres need 1.6 mm over the entire breath of the tyre. I believe some commercial vehicles have the at least 3/4 of the breath rule.

You might be lucky and get an advisory on the mot depending on the tester but lets be honest it needs changing anyway so get on it before the MOT is my advice

Your going to have to bite the bullet and get a new one soon, might as well get it done at the same time? I would be more worried about and 3point and fine from the police if they decided to pull you. Or rear ending someone due to reduced grip. It's not the biggest photo on my phone but it lows worn to me

It's shot buddy. Get rid.
Sod the MOT, think of safety, not just a pass / fail / advisory.

I wouldn't want to drive with tyres like that look shot to me.
If your asking in your own mind you must know its shot!

Hi mate, aslong as the tyre is at least 1.6mm of tread across the middle (75% of tyre) and there is no cords exposed on the edges it would be a pass and advise. But as stated I would not fancy driving around on it

Any ply or cords exposed is a failure mate, even if its just a cut bigger than 25mm and its deep enough to cords is a failure

Well it shouldn't have done!! Any cords showing is illigal (3 points on your licence) & an instant failure.

You're driving a performance car on a tyre like that. Really?

Wires showing indicates a tyre well past it's life not nearing the end. Call me cautious but I wouldn't compromise my safety or that of other motorists by using a tyre with exposed wires. The whole point of the mot is to ascertain the road worthiness of a car. A tyre so far gone that it is down to the wire is not roadworthy.

Yes wires arent good but as i said the tyre posted is fine as 2mm is above the legal limit needed and is nearing end of life

That will pass. My old astra had both rear inners like that and it passed- only noticed it after the mot and cleaning the car.

the tyre is still possibly legal! i.e perfectly usable. it is well above the indicators across most of the tyre. just the edge is bald (still legal) and i was asking for advise as to whether is was more or less than 75% so i can decide to fit a new pair of tyres this side of pay day for the mot. chill out!

Unreal isn't it. I'm amazed too.
Crikey, just Linglongs for the short term would be safer.
