As the title says really, I used to own a modified bug wrx and it set me back 2500 a year in insurance so I ended up getting rid ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Thing is, i've turned 30 and looking for a new car, so started getting quotes and to my surprise i can get quotes for wrx's and sti's for a little over 500 quid. Has insurance just dropped in general or is it my age?

I'm with elephant own policy (so same company), added my mum and girlfriend as they lowered it, tho my dad would have put it back up :S. I have 6 ncb I think, I do live in the middle of nowhere but no garage or private drive, I have a phase 2 uk classic so I guess that's the main issue, I found the Imports was higher but none was over £1000 mark, looking to upgrade mine to a v4/v6 type r

When I moved from DA8 to DA9 (a distance of seven miles), my car insurance dropped by 150 quid. And that was on a 1.2 Clio. And I was 29 at the time. I'm 32 now, and I got my UK turbo insured for 300 quid fully comp last year. I can't even begin to fathom out how their rates are calculated.
Although, my current insurers were good enough to explain that they give better rates once you turn 30. Essentially, they're saying you're much more irresponsible and untrustworthy as a driver right up until the day before your 30th, then overnight hey presto - you're mature and sensible.
But, understandably, for 300 quid a year on an Impreza I didn't complain.

Didn't I read that Insurance for men was likely to come down as the result of an EU ruling that giving the ladies preferential rates was discriminatory, and hence theirs would be rising with a 'corresponding' reduction in male premiums?
The companies' pleas about women being less of a risk fell on deaf ears apparently.
Fwiw I'm 57, have only ever had 1 accident that was my fault (30-odd years ago and it was a dented bumper costing about £50 then, I think) and I'm paying over £600 with the best deal, £70 less than my previous insurer quoted me, after 11 months without a car again (but with NCD).
I was stupid enough to not have a car for over 2 years about 5 years ago, so all my NCD went down the drain and I had to start again.
If that ever happens again I'll buy an MoT failure for £100, SORN and insure that.
That's how crazy things are.

I'm grateful for living where I do and hooking up with Keith Michaels. Perfect combination!
Sub £500 a year policy cost, for a Hawkeye Newage JDM STI, running 490bhp all mods declared.
Keith Michaels and Gary are the daddies for my situation!

Yep, I've no complaints on that front.
It's only the 'stolen' NCD that's kept me above £600, possibly even £500.

Very surprised at that. I'm in Kent and Privilege pretty much turned their nose up at me when I told them about the Impreza.
Wanted another 300 quid on top of what I'd already paid them for the year.
Just goes to show there are no hard or fast rules when calculating insurance premiums. As long as I pay less this year than I did last year, and less next year than I did this year, I won't mind.
