Default Buying an STI, opinions on this car please

Hello, Im looking to buy an STI and am looking at this car on Paul Browns site:

http://www.paulbrowncars.co.uk/car_S...211__index.php

I am completely new to this scene (currently got a Mini Cooper S) so Im looking for advice from the people that do know whether or not the list of mods done to this car are wise and if anything else would need to be done to it to keep it reliable. I also ran a search on Sanspeed and the results were not good, is there any reason to doubt that the work done is poor because it was done by Sanspeed?

I appreciate any replies, Stuart.

Not comprehensive by any stretch but here's my 2p worth.

Those cars tend to be reliable. The price is reasonable for the age and mileage just make sure it hasn't had too many owners and ensure there are no gaps in the service history. Avoid cars that have been serviced on a budget, you ideally want to see specialists and main dealers in the service book.

If you take the car out then feel and listen for crunchy gear changes (bear in mind these cars have sharp clutches compared to a Mini) and knocking from the bottom end of the engine. If either of them are present then walk away. These cars are prone to knocking from the rear shocks don't get too excited if you hear that, it is easily fixed. Also a good idea to check for rust and signs of crash damage or poorly repaired areas on the bodywork. Check the condition of the discs and pads too (and if you can look at the alloys to see if they have any cracks etc in them) as cars that have been thrashed may have excessive wear here. I'd suspect at this mileage the discs would have been replaced at least once.

If you're worried about the car's past service history take a mechanic with you to see it or make sure you get a good warranty with the car. You could always take it to a respected specialist for a full service if you think there may be something up with the car.

Unless it has been thrashed and/or badly maintained though it should be a good honest motor, 2.0 STis tend not to cause much in the way of problems.

They've been trying to shift that STi for months now. There must be a reason it's a quite a cheap price yet nobody has bought it yet...

I'm not saying it's a bad car by any means, but it's a factor I would take into consideration if I was thinking of buying.

Thanks for the replies, it is a bit worrying if its been up for sale for months... maybe people just dont want a car modified so much.

Blackpoolrock that car is so nice, very tempting. I still have my mini right now I was going to part ex it so to get your car I would need to sell up unless you wanted to drop the price to the 7500 region, or maybe you want a mini ?
