When I park my Impreza in a supermarket car park i find the quietest spot and ALWAYS straddle two bays in order to prevent somebody parking next to me and dinging my doors.
I seriously could not care a hoot what anybody says about me doing that.
If the car park is so full that I cannot straddle two bays Iam prepared to go elsewhere.
that never happens however.
Who is the more selfish? the guy who cares about his car and wants to look after it or the tit who parks next to him and smacks his door in with their door?

We all know people do it to reduce the possibility of door dinging but surely you're not so dim as to think no one will possibly key your car just to punish you? Doh........

It highlights the fact as most car park spaces are tiny ( around here anyway) I annoy the family when I'm looking for a good space rather than just a space, I feel that in certain places, if they lost one/two space per row would make all the others a little more comfortable, everytime I wash the car I see little bits of damage caused by others not thinking about others

It was me, but mine was a black wagon in lidl in Pazin Croatia about 3hrs ago.
If it's any consolation us british drivers a receiving recognition around the world for our bad parking, apparently there is a FB page out here dedicated to our poor spacial awareness.

I'm a **** because I regularly park across two bays.
The number of dents, dings and scratches I've had from inconsiderate arseholes opening their doors and scratching their fat ***** along my cars over years is downright annoying.
I don't tend to do it right in the busy spots though.

Personally I tend to either park away from other cars or between 2 cars that are well parked and/or expensive in the hope there owners are more careful.

Just dont take my scooby shopping, Drive the missus car and if that gets whacked with another door when im shopping I couldn't care less!!! But if they hit the door when im sitting in the car, then that's a different story, I would be asking them for insurance details so I could get the, to pay for the dent to be took out!!!

[QUOTE=neil-h;11226620]Thing is that parking across 2 spaces is more likely to annoy more people than the bloke who dents your car with his door.

You are right in saying that parking across two bays might bring unwanted attention and yes there is always the risk that someone might run a key up the side of the car but I think that is far less likely to happen than if I were to park like everyone else and get my car dinged by someone.
I quite regularly see cars parked in a manner which suggests their owner cares about it. Not just Imprezas.
I agree that it seems sensible to park next to a nice car which looks like it is cared for by the owner but I still park away from everyone else purely because I wouldn't want someone parking right next to me.
It goes without saying that other motorists are entitled to park where they want so I try to be discreet.
Often however I only enter supermarket car parks in my 'Daily Driver' a pug 106. I park that just the same as everyone else. And alas it has been dinged.
If you cherish your car and look after it why worry about offending someone due to the way you decide to park?
Too many people these days treat their cars like they treat their household appliances. Just use, abuse, throw away.

If you must use a public car park, consider these golden rules:
Don't park next to a 2-door car (doors have to be opened wider to allow exit) especially If a) there's a baby seat in the back. b) the drivers seat is close to the steering wheel (ie short **** driver - possibly female) as the door needs to be opened even further!
Avoid dirty, dented cars - they obviously don't give a sh** about their own car so it's likely they won't give a sh** about yours.
Micras, Aygos, Polos, basic Fiestas etc These are likely to be driven by very old people who struggle to get out of bed each morning let alone a car! (I'm 'very' old but I don't fall into that category - yet!)
Avoid garden centres.

I used to have an old BMW 635 csi and always used two spaces just so I could get in and out the car.
One day I park up at Tescos and a woman comes back to her car muttering that my parking was a disgrace to which I opened my drivers door and almost took the side out of her car....she soon shut up
