The spigot bearing should have been changed as per course. The first time,!!!! And yes this will cause a screeching from the bell housing area. If it was left, the ball bearings would come out the race, giving free play in the input shaft. Resulting in a gearbox rebuild when input shaft bearing let's go.

Not changing the spigot bearing is in theory, same as not replacing the release bearing or re using the old clutch cover !?!??! Common sense to check it at least the first time the box was out.

I can understand them leaving it if they were told to leave it, or if it had been done very recently, but it seems silly to go to the effort of doing the clutch and neglecting such a cheap service item.

Lets hope it hasnt worn into the new cover, if they replaced that for a new one lol

Try and have a look when its all apart again, if there is a big groove in the centr of the cover spline insist they replace that too!

I would never use mr clutch for anything, or ATS, well at least the one in swindon after what they done to my old work van. Or quickfit in chippenham after jacking an old car up by the floorpan and putting an 8" split in it....

But then, ill do pretty much everything on a car myself anyway lol

Why use Mr clutch and not a Subaru specific garage?

Pay peanuts you get monkeys...

Could it be the clutch release bearing? That would make a horrible screeching sound if it was not greased properly when you got your clutch put in. I had this problem on mine a year or so ago.

most spigot bearings are little needle roller bearings that are pressed into the centre of the crank.
surly if that was seized it would make a noise all the time the engine was running.

sounds release bearing to me tbh!

i guess you will just have to wait and see what mr clutch says

I hope your not planning on giving them any more money!

As far as i'm concerned you took the car in for them to resolve a problem with the clutch whether that includes the fitting of a new one or not, 5 days and 500 quid later the problem is still there, so the onus is on them to resolve the situation to a satisfactory outcome, as in fixed clutch problem.

They are supposed to be the experts, they are doing this day in day out and have exhibited negligence when carrying out the repair, they only had their eyes on the money they would make from installing a new clutch and did not bother to diagnose the fault correctly so causing you to fork out for a new clutch, which by their admission had plenty of life left in it.

Threaten to take them to court if they want more money because it's an open and shut case.

Not normally unless you ask. Most 'kits' come with clutch, pressure/cover plate and the release bearing. You'd only really get one included if you bought a clutch flywheel kit together My clutch is being replaced next year and I ordered a spigot at the same time as well as a rear main oil seal. It's just good economics and safety to replace these items when you have access to them. This doesn't mean they need replacing at the time, but it just makes sense for a few quid to start fresh again while everything's apart

Get a decent clutch such as ACT and it comes as part of the kit. But then again, most people don't want to pay more than they would for an Excedy?

Most kits The RCM kit I am looking at as well doesn't come with the spigot bearing and that's a decent kit . If it's not listed it's always best to specify

i understand what you are saying about the rear oil seal, but if its not broke dont fix it imo.

yes for piece of mind etc, but what if the new one starts to leak?

as for mr clutch, are they 'just' clutch fitters and not general motor mechanics?

as if they were just doing the job of fitting the clutch, then the spigot bearing could well be out of their realms of repair - unless specifically asked to check it.

just to give a view from their side maybe.

I assume you mean the downpipe to gearbox bracket(s) (there's 2 on my Milltek downpipe) If so, get them on ASAP as there will be stress on the downpipe to turbo joint.
