Default Suspension for 05 sti widetrack

It appears difficult to find any aftermarket shocks for my car other than oem ones or the expensive adjustable kyb ones . Recently contacted camskill and they can only provide oem ones at over £400 a pair!. Anyone got alternatives other than coilovers ? Can you get kyb ultras for this car?

Told you this aftermarket stuff was expensive, Subarus are built to be modded you'll never stop

Can you remind us of what exactly you're trying to achieve with the suspension?

Ha ha yes indeed, got my new rally armor mudflaps today

Well shocks regreased a while back which are the oem ones so pretty sure they will need replacing soon. This car will never go on the track. Want a good fast road setup. Get conflicting views on coilovers even from leading subaru specialists! Like the car to sit lower but not at expense of trashy ride.

That's always going to happen to be honest, ride is something that is rarely measured and is usually down to opinion. What I think of as jiggly may be smooth to someone else might be smooth and what I think settled may be harsh to you.

I'd have thought a Bilstein with Eibachs fast road setup and ALK would be ideal for yourself but that's not cheap.

My friends are running HSD coilovers on there Imprezas they both think there brilliant ride quality and handling, I ran them on my Integra Type R and M3 and I also though they performed really well!

But as said above depends what you define as good and comfortable, my mate had a S3 with KWs he said it was great I got in and felt back breaking.

so you mean Bilstein shocks and eibach lowering springs - not coilovers. any idea where you get this kit from? Def getting the ALK fitted soon.

Off the top of my head I think the best person to talk to would be Dirk at Powerstation or Iain Litchfield at Litchfield Imports as they did a whole range of track and fast street suspension packages.

I'm slightly surprised a few more people haven't chipped in with suggestions as there are some meaty setups floating around on here.

I would avoid track-focussed systems by AST, Tein and Ohlins.

Nina we need to get round to a ride out in my car. I'm on BC ER coilovers as we've discussed.

Problem is, it's a very fine line (perhaps even non-existent) between a hard ride and a bouncy ride. If I soften mine up, it just wallows around like a 1990's BMW and it bounces for days after a dip in the road.

I've still got my setup from my last track day which is awesome, but probably a little on the harsh side for a DD.

I'm sure with somebody skilled doing the setup (I've got independent rebound and compression adjustment so it's a nightmare to trial/error) I could have a lovely DD ride quality - but I've not found it yet.

The noise (particularly from the rears) is another thing to consider about coilovers, at least solid top mount coilovers which most seem to be.

Fonsey, I'm on ER coils to. I run them with 6/5 and long travel option with softer internal damping. I have assister springs on so can run higher ride height and als othe rubber top mounts. There is a fine line as you say between bouncy and stiff, and it's about 8-10 clicks out with my set up. Any stiffer than 5 and I can feel the tyre sidewalls making the car bounce in a horrible fashion.

Less than 12 and it just pogos. I do find leaving a bit less Comp than rebound helps but too much imbalance feels weird.

4/3 will be shortly ordered for Winter....

Cheers Marky.

I've got the 10/8 springs and I've recently been talking with Apex and it sounds like my dampers won't support softer ones, and I would need softer springs to go with rubber top mounts unfortunately.

I started out with 15/15 front and 10/10 rear (from soft) but I might try 20r/18c front and 15r/13c rear.

I spoke to a few pros about it and the consensus was that my damper settings could mean totally different things on each corner potentially, and I'd need them on a shock dyno and the car corner weighted to get any real idea of what settings to try.

Beginning to wonder if I should have just got cheaper coilovers with less adjustments to simplify things, but these are excellent on track even if a bit noisy!
