Wildly varying insurance quotes.

Wildly varying insurance quotes.
After 4 years of driving and 4 years no claims I finally got an insurance quote for a wrx sti for under a grand, £890 to be precise. This meant my dream might actually be a reality sooner than I had thought so I started scouring pistonheads for that perfect scoobie. Just as i find a clean one within reasonable distance with low mileage and a number of sensible performance mods I get a quote for £1200 on it which is understandable due to the performance enhancing mods. But yesterday, just as I'm organizing a viewing of the car i refresh the 1 week old (expired) quote and it comes back at £2450 on all comparison sites. How can it double in cost in 7 days? Every detail of the car, driver and cover is the same so what could have happened to justify an increase of £1250?! Has anyone else experienced this?

insurance is lick your finger, stick it in the air to find out which way the wind is blowing.
do it twice in 20 mins and you could get two different quotes,,,,, lol
its a bit of a joke tbh

Contact a specialist on here (Keith Michaels, Sky, etc).
The comparison sites are often cheaper for me initially, but then they blow up when I start adding mods. Keith Michaels this year gave me a quote which wasn't really really cheap - but affordable, but I didn't have to pay a penny for adding mods through the year.

i was in the same boat as you for this but for a wrx, 4 years driving and 4 years NCB. was getting quotes for 600-700 now i look and get things like 1700, ive gone for elephant in the end as it was by far the cheapest (669) and only managed this because i got one of the cheaper quotes and saved it and was luckily still valid. insurance companies.. haven't got a clue.

I'm in aberdeen as well and i bought my STI at 21 as that was the only age i could start getting quotes under 4k etc.
I ended up with either elephant or admiral through confused.com. They are partner companies so almost always the same prices.
I was roughly 1200 for a standard 2005 sti and over the last 2 years its came down to about 600.
But i have seen prices vary on those sites from day to day when i insured my run about golf

I just can't understand insurance prices at all, I got a quote for a 53 plate WRX earlier off money supermarket and came back at £793 then I changed the car to a 53 plate WRX STi and it's only £23 more expensive...

A lot of these online companies do credit checks when you quote, so make sure all details are correct.
Putting a false address will put up the price, and even things like 'Tom' instead of 'Thomas' could effect the rate.
If they can't find you they may not want to insure you.
Or just ring me

I was looking to get back into the Scooby fold for a good 12 months. During that time, I kept doing on-line insurance quotes. The highest quote was £900 with the lowest being £238....which coincided with me buying the car!
Now, I know I have 11 years no claims but I wasn't expecting to get it that low.
Admittedly, it is a standard policy and doesn't cover any mods, so next August I will probably be going back to Gary as I want all mods covered when I start having a play.
I knew though that Gary couldn't get near the £238 so I didn't waste his time. Will be coming back next year though as I foresee a nice little VF34/35 sitting in my engine bay at some point!

Lol told you so . I also found out another thing. Well im not sure if this is correct or not but has happened with me a few times. Get a quote that starts a month later but it should start nearer the end if month. For example if your go online for a quote on the 31st august. Start the policy at 31st sept. Or few days before. Comes out cheaper compared to starting the policy say the 2nd of sept. Has worked a few times for me not sure if thats always the case..

+1 for A-Plan insurance.
Recently insured a JDM Forester STi with them for not a lot of money (although I've 9 years NCB and 6 years 'high-performance' experience).
Give them a call and ask for Stuart...

Some good tips on clearing cache and history have to try that one for my house insurance and flights
As for as car insurance is concerned
Don't why people that have been on scoobynet and have a few posts and history even consider comparrisment sites
There is not one god
Gary Mouslon
In fact he is bigger then almighty himself
Me £209 fully comprehensive ,protected for my turbo
Why do people just not read what's on here over the years and then follow the master of insurance
Elephant insured the boy on his 350z. When he was 20 for £1600

I think the main issue is that you're dealing with so many variables, in reality the only thing we have in common is the brand of car we choose to drive.
You're then at the mercy of the underwriter who looks at your age, driving history, location, occupation, marital and living status amongst god knows how many other things to try to reach an accurate assessment of just how much of a risk you might present.
I, like some of the other posts, live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by sheep, cows and grass, so location wise im less of a liability than I would be at my parents' place in Liverpool. Equally, 9 years ncb and a performance car history going back to 2004 again works in my favour. All of this conspires to make my import insurable for me. Someone else might really struggle to find reasonably priced cover whereas another might get it a damn sight cheaper than I did.
A daft example of this is my last car, renewal price: £420. Price paid after a two minute click through meerkat: £160. The only difference, the lower one was a different company. Utter nonsense and probably bordering on extortion in hoping that you allow your policy to automatically renew.
