Default Modified or standard

Hi all,

So i have had my sti for about 2 years now and it has remained as it was from when i bought it.
apart from some handling upgrades.
It has –
stainless exhaust with 2nd cat removed and original down pipe in place (as when purchased)
turbo timer (got for free and fitted with option for easy removal)
Brembo uprated brakes all round with Goodrich stainless lines (fitted when standard discs needed replaced)
BC racing coilovers (due to originals being knackered)

Now the thing I’ve always been in 2 minds is whether to modify the power side of things, wouldn’t be anything major, panel filter, decat down pipe and a remap aiming for 320-340ish.

What are peoples opinions if they were buying a sti? Rather a standard or slightly modified?

I have a widetrack blob and im a bit biased to these as I think theyre one of the best impreza’s because of the 2l engine and the interior upgrades

As you know Martin, the decision is very subjective, but just to give you some thoughts from the buyers side....
About 3 weeks ago I finally got around to buying a Scoob after years of 'will I, won't I'.
I only looked at 05-06 (cheaper tax) one or two owner, reasonable milage totally original cars.
As soon as I saw any upgrades in the advert, I moved on.
Having said all that, as soon as you join this sort of Forum, it's very easy to see those thoughts change.
I travelled the country and bought an 05 2.0 WRX PPP, one owner 65K with FSSH.

Now where shall I start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know when I was buying I specifically looked for a car that did have some mods that I would most likely do myself.

But I think finding a standard Impreza of any age is pretty difficult.

Also your car is already modified so even if it isn't power wise, it still isn't standard.

iv had a few subaru's over the years
and spent a fortune on mods
so this time I looked for one that was all done

I ended up with a mint type r , that had just had about 8k spent on it less than 1k ago
so I don't have to spend any thing and just enjoy

we all say at first , I'm keeping it standard but as soon as you get it and start reading on here
the thoughts in your head , then you start looking on the for sale bit and eBay
then before you know it you have spent 1k+

but a month or so before you could of bought one all modded for the same price or cheaper

just my thoughts

yeah its true it is modified but i think it could only be classed as upgraded replacements. As brakes and the struts are inevitably going to need changed, and i have the turbo timer set so it could be easily removed and i have the complete standard exhaust.

Grunty makes a good point.
Although i said it was 'totally original', it had the PPP power upgrades, 18"Prodrive wheels + other goodies from new.
So what is 'totally original'?

On that point, any ideas on how I can find out exactly what spec it has?

I guess it is almost impossible to get one totally original spec as most people, like myself, would rather put on slightly better up rated parts when they need to replace something

Standard cars will have been driven harder in a bid to keep up!

https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444...ow-milage.html

Just bought the little badger in the link above. Like many I have now worked my way through to my seventh Scoob, 3 UK and 3 JDM including a Foggy STi and a WR Ltd BL Legacy.

Modding, not on this one but the brakes on the early models are woeful so for safety I may get 4 pots and some mini mud flaps to protect the paint work.

If you don't want to have hassle come sale time then fit a prodrive sport cat as then with a fuel pump and remap will be similar to ppp pack so no real issue. If decatted then buyers will be reduced due to hassle at mot time and remote possibility of a road side check
