Rough idea of db
I have a 2004 sti with sports cat, decat second cat, straight through centre and blitz nur spec back box. What would the db be roughly? More than 105 static and 102 on a drive by ?

Believe it or not, my full decat Nur Spec R was 98db at 3/4 throttle etc, without the bung in.
Since Elvington village is full of whining sods, Straightliners have to be stringent with their noise tests, and mine was the above at SSO.

I rang oulton but they didn't have anyone there to test the car today as there was nothing on. I work six days a week so time is limited. I spoke to Duncan who mapped the car before I bought it and he says with the bung in the car will be fine, won't boost as high though. Think I will if needed put the bung in and then sneakily make it fall out in the garage in the morning

Just put a bung in and go and have a good time. It's not about how loud you can be. It's about stritching the limits of your ability and your car, and neither of those too far.

Im going to do just this when I next can. . Can I just ask, why are these noise limits in place? Surely touring cars are louder?

Hi. Any car audio garage/shop in your area ? They should have one. If not, Maplin does decibel meters for either £29.99 or £39.99, look at their website.
As for accuracy of iPhone apps, IMO they read too high, I mean actual db level is lower than they read, I think.
My fully deccated 3" system with one resonator. Checked by marshals at Bedford Autodrome track.
iPhone app at 5000rpm reads 98db when proper decibel meter at 4500rpm reads only 86db.
I know it's 500rpm less but still...
You can also ask at some MOT stations if they have one ?

If yours read that, mine will be fine as its the same, 3" system, decat with one silencer, albeit small (iirc). I'm suprised there's not a thread/sticky on here that people can add too with their experiences.

It's not until next year. I'm just planning ahead lol.
Great reply. Thankyou mate. A few ideas there that I didn't think of.
