Default Trying race helmets for size/fit

I need to get a helmet for some up coming track days. I want an open face one and I've been told to try before I buy. But where can I do this? I'm in watford. I've found one place but there in Cornwall . Any ideas please?.

Hi. Again :-)

Google is there any shop or garage in your area that sell motorbikes/scooters. If there is one, I'm sure they'll have helmets as well so you could try it.

Hello my track day saviour lol.

There is but they only do full face ones. And they are more expensive than the Motorsport ones I'm looking at. Strange.

I'm think blackcat will send 2 sizes and you can keep the better fit and return the other.

Just for trackdays you don't need MSA or FIA approved helmet (around £200). You can get a new OMP or Sparco open face helmet for £60-£70.
Plenty on EBay or Demon Tweeks.

Really? I thought it had to be fia. I've seen a couple I'd like to try for size.

Got my OMP one for 60 quid from Demon Tweeks. Can send those back before 10 days too if you buy two. I found the silverstone shop expensive (there website lists nothing under roughly 200 quid!)

The OMP one I got from Demon Tweeks crash tested just as the expensive ones, just ain't FIA approved, which isn't required on a Trackday .

For mine from Demontweeks, tried a few before the one I have. Opted for an open face as I wear glasses and just found it easier.

Yeah they are, pretty sure it's only competitions that require MIA/FIA.

This is the OMP one I have http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...mp-star-helmet

Get a snazzy bag with it too

Yes it is.

"The Star from OMP is an entry level open face helmet with an ABS shell, velvet lining and a removable black sun peak.

The Star helmet has no approval for motorsport use but is ideal for trackdays* or other non MSA / FIA events."

Link to this helmet (you can get exactly same one on EBay a bit cheaper)

I've got the OMP cheapy too, my passenger uses his motorbike helmet and he's always a right sweaty mess at the end of a session, much prefer open face for in my car.... but full face would always give you the option of a passenger ride in an open top car etc.

I have two helmets. Open face Sparco and £40 full face from eBay I bought for gokarting.
As above, full face in Saloon car is not very good idea :-( Wife didn't last a minute wearing full face one (nearly start to panic) so have to swap with her when took her for a track ride. End of October and after 25 mins session my head was wet.
Think how uncomfortable this can be in the summer ?!
