Picked my new WRX on Tuesday
Better than I remeber the test drive, it seems sharper and faster even tho I'm not thrashing it...honest The handling and grip are great but the bloody awful steering remains a thorn in it's side IMHO.
Hell even the looks are starting to grow on me...I even allowed myself a second glance before turning the front door key tonight. I am sure this car has more character than the old model from certain angles or am I clutching at straws .
Still the prodrive back box sounds awesome and the refinement is in a different league from my old Datsun
Cheers

Yup I've got to agree I've had mine for a month or so and It's definately got character, those eyes remind me of the VW advert, all thats missing is the tears.
With regard to the steering just live with it for a couple of weeks and the feel will become the norm,I think because it is so effortless & being your new pride & joy that initially you are too tense with the wheel,I literally steer it with just finger & thum grip,by doing this there is definately feeling there.
The other day I was at my mates whose got an my99, with both cars parked next to each other I walked around the corner and upon seeing them both a devilish smirk just appeared on me,initial reaction was how old fashioned the my99 looked,as i said I've only had it for just over a month but I would'nt swap it back for my my00.

What I they like to live with, the thing is that i am going to have to use the car for work which involves a lot of stop/starts in short distances, It will still have a good run every night, any other things I should know about, cheers

I can't comment on other years' models, as this is the first scoob I have had.

Day-to-day it's a pleasure to live with. It's easy to drive in traffic, which is how it spends a lot of it's life ( commuting to Kingston & home ), and fun at the weekend. The missus loves it, as it pootles about off-boost with no worries whatsoever. The interior is well sorted and the seats are comfortable. I'm taking it over to France in May & June and am really looking forward to it.

The only drawback for me is the regular visits to the petrol station - but that is something you know about beforehand, and I expect that it's worse for me as I came out of a pug306 Dturbo.

Don't underestimate the grin factor too !

Had My "New Age Impreza" 2 Months now
It has loosened up well
I have even cancelled the Morrete Lights as I have grown to love the Bug Eyes

I have taken the few cosmectic mods from Subaru Side Grill's Clear Side Indicators/Reflectors and Scoobysport CIBIE's

Tinted windows and a Scoobysport Backbox to follow

I am also waiting for delivery of an MY01 WRX

I still have nightmares. Should I have gone for the MY00 ??? Have I made the right decision ???

Having read everyones posts I am a little happier that I made the right decision.
And I do think your right, it looks far more modern than the MY00 and from most angles more aggresive too.

Lets hope the PPP is as good as promised.

Nathan..

Mine lands in Septmeber. WRC style big wing, clear indicators and gold wheels should make it stand out from a crowd

I've had mine Since January, covered over 10K miles and its now running like a dream. It cruises on Motorways, yet loves B roads. I am not sure if its true or not but it seems to be getting faster the more its run in.

Thanks for your comments mate. Always nice to see new and old car owners living together in harmony! Why do you hate the car? And why do you feel we would want to know - would you like it if we posted a thread "STI 2's are CRAP and old"??? Probably not.

Ive had my car since Jan, 3500 miles - total pleasure to drive.

Ive had the leather and carbon interior, strut brace, white reflectors, tinted windows, colour coded sills, boost gauge and the front side grill and center grill added. Heres a pic of it next to the "old" model - sorry it needed washing!

I too want the Scoobysport stuff, but am waiting on the PPP to see how good it is.

It loosened up in the last 500 miles. Cant recommend it enough

Following on from a thread a few days ago, yes my WRX mats have been changed with no questions asked. It appears there are more cases around than just you and I.

Also had clear indicators yesterday. Well worth it IMHO.

JZA,

As I rolled through this thread I was just about to post about how there was a pic in another gallery of a new shape against the old shape and how good the new shape did actually look vs the old shape........

and then cor blimey if the very pic was there posted by you.

My lease purchase is up in June next year and I may well plump for the UK MY02 WRX STI.... due here in September me thinks...

I also like mine. But..... As a third time Scooby man. It needs lowering 20mm and about another 25/30BHP, then it would be the car I had hoped it would be. Just does not have the straight line grunt of either of the old cars and to be honest, I DO miss that.

Doesn't mean I don't like the car. Much to like about it. But just needs a bit more grunt. An excuse to change the car early next year maybe!

Enjoy.

You may be right about the steering growing on you, as I feel an awful lot more confident with the car after just 4 days of ownership.
I still think it's over-assisted slightly but I can live with it as the rest of the car is superb, even my wife loves it....I caught her giving it some last night after she gave me a lift to Birdys'(stood outside the front door to hear the exhaust burble) and she rarely gets above 30 usually in her saxo.
As for the STI 2 dude, I had never seriously considered an Impreza before the MY01 came along so what does that tell you about my feelings towards your car but that's not to say that I don't rate the motor just that it didn't appeal to me as it was IMHO a touch bland and unrefined. Still each to his own I spose.

Thanks Stevie,

I'll get the mats swapped out in a couple of weeks. If I'm feeling flush, I'll get the clear indicators done in a month or so ... maybe with the morettes as well..

Don't talk to me about waiting! September is when I pick mine up.

Plus I've sold the Puma so I don't have a performance car to drive anymore. A Punto is now my chariot.

So i take it you've never followed behing 20+ impreza's on a scooby meet in your "dead slow" WRX and found how surprising it is that you CAN keep up with UK Turbos and are faster into and through the corners AND you dont suffer from understeer like the other Mk1 cars do!

I understand that a Mk1 with full SS exhaust is slower than a MkII with full SS exhaust (so Pete Croney says)!!

The performance is more of a "feels" faster because the Mk1 had a more pronounce kick - when in fact they are very similar (from my experience)

Chaps.....two months now with my DBM MY01 Wagon, and its just superb...I am one very impressed owner!!!

The only prob I have had is a seal resonance at 100mph (abroad abviously). Anybody else had the same thing? The dealer is going to sort it. Trouble is, I'll be without the car for a day or two and they say that they can only test to 70mph!!! The sound is not directional, but my guess is windscreen seal. Still I don't get to drive at over a ton very often so its of no major concern.

But... I do want to get it sorted in case some oik in an old Scooby tries it on, nartamean?

Cheers,

Rich

Jza,

I suppose all those magazine testers and their stop watches were wrong as well?

As i said in my thread, i kept up with the UK spec cars (most had ss exhausts). Thats a fact (not some magazine test). Real worlds often a lot different to the magazines you know mate. How often do you launch your car off the lights at max revs to 60mph? No, not very often.

If you have any facts about your experience you'd like to share please post them! Im very aware of what the magazines say thanks all the same.
