Default lightweight/race battery

I know the obvious advantages of fitting a lightweight battery -save a good 7kg but what are the disadvantages ? How long when the cars is not in use does the battery go flat? we do use the car regularly but sometimes when we use our other car( estate) the subaru can be unused for a few days(4-5)days..is the lightweight battery ideal cheers

Mine would go flat within a week if left. I opted to use a battery optimiser to keep it in check and never had a problem

The previous owner of mine always had it on a trickle charger.
The longest I've gone without using the car is 5 days, and there was no issue then.

However, my mate had a problem with it on our return from a 12-day holiday.
Tbh I'd forgotten that it had a lightweight.

So basically, don't worry if it's a few days but don't expect it to last a week by the seems of it.

Can't remember the make if im honest, I bought it from a chap on here who decided not to use it. It was pretty much brand new and came with the alloy basket to sit in. Think I paid about £100 for the lot.
It was tiny, id be surprised if it weighed more than 5kg.

Can't help on that one. My car was always under a cover in a warm garage.

Cant remember what the weight was of my old spec-c battery but when it died I replaced it with one off a nissan micra which is about the same size if you do a search you will find the battery part number and that worked well

Winter kills race batteries. I wouldn't bother for the sake of a few lbs. Take half the washer fluid out and have a big dump I'll never fit a 'race' battery again, not worth the agro. I do have a smaller battery on my S202 but it's not a gel type.

lol 53 beat me to it.. i was going to say visit the thinking chair and take a load off before you drive.

on a road car a strong battery is a good idea. if your that desperate to shave off 7kg look elsewhere as there are plent of other places you can pull weight from. alternately just add a little more HP. im sure the equivalent HP gain for a 7kg loss would be next to nothing..

reminds me of a quote i saw some years ago in someones signature on another forum.. "you dont need it, put it in the weight reduction box"

So it's going to cost money ,is a lot more trouble than a standard battery & will give no performance benefit.

I'm confused.

If your looking to reduce weight on your car it is a good place to start as the standard battery is well heavy, but what the other members are trying to say is that they are high maintenance,as if left alone connected to your car without a trickle charge that they could be dead within a week or cold weather etc....I am going to be running one on my project build but my car is and has always been a weekend toy and the battery will be trickle charged when not in use.So if you have the means to maintain the charge of the battery by all means get one fitted but just try to understand that there not a fit and forget they need maintaining.SJ.
