Default Should I buy a STI?

Well I have had Subaru's from a young age I had 2 WRX's before hand and loved them they weren't the nicest examples as I was 18 at the time and money was tight. After having them cars I bought a BMW 320D searching for low fuel costs and ever since been bored out of my mind from driving. I'm in two mind whether or not to get a nice example maybe a 2009 STI hatch? I'm coming up 21 now and know the older I get the less chance I will have one again. What are your thought's? I am from the UK so fuel prices are astronomical however I could be driving a 2 litre diesel getting 45mpg that doesn't compare to the frill the Subaru supplies, I really can't choose. How are you finding running one? With tax close to £500 a year and fuel prices I am wondering if it's worth it, what do you think?I just miss that noise so much!

You need to get some Insurance quotes first at 21 the prices wont be great and the specialist companies wont touch you till you reach 25.

Hi Nick,

I have had a WRX, Evo 10 FQ-330 SST and back to the new 2010 Saloon STI Type UK PPP.

Your right, Subaru have there own sound and thrill, I wouldn't have anything else other than a new GT-R

It really depends on what you have finances wise or if you are looking to finance a vehicle.

If I had the cash and was going to play around with a car I would go for a Blobeye 55 plate or earlier.

Cheaper tax bracket I believe up to that point and plenty of mod options.

There are some nice P1 and limited editions available at good money, I am sure many people will give you all the options on here.

Depends how much power you want in the end

Thanks, I don't think I'd want to play around with it to much. I would most likely finance but part exchange my BM so I don't think I'd be financing to much.

Hey if you want a slower, heavier car, with 3 gear changes before you leave the line go STI!

I don't know what Tubby sees in the STI, certainly not the 6 extra stickers and badges it has compared to the inferior lemon.

So if I'm looking at buying the hatch should I choose the WRX S or WRX?

WRX and STI are both great cars, but the STI is better.
However, anyone who disputes that they come from exactly the same design ethos is simply delusional. IMO.

Stick to an STI in all seriousness as you'll only be coveting STI parts at a later day, with added worry that the used parts might be shafted anyway.

What kind of difference is there between insurance quotes on 2 standard examples?

I'm paying £270 for a 2003 WRX, I'll go get a quote for an STI 03 now, as we speak.

I was in a similar boat at 25, I got quoted 700 for and EVO 4 and 1400 for an EVO 5, I got the 4 then had to listen to loads of small d*cks saying why did you get a 4 it has crank walk, it can't be mapped etc etc etc...

Maybe, but I think you will find a traders policy won't cover you for cars you own yourself, just customers or stock cars.

Why does everyone think they are sorted with a traders policy

If it ever comes to crunch time bud I seriously hope you have all your receipts, tax returns, profit and loss, trading bank accounts etc in place or your going to get royally shafted in the first degree. You may have a traders policy but I truly hope your legit and can prove trading for your own sake or it ain't worth the paper it's written on bud, trust me I know plenty of people who have been shafted because "they knew better".

Not having a pop or anything but I started mine at 21 and the number of hurdles I hit was unreal, there are not many GENUINE 21 year olds out there using that policy for its intended use I know partly why I've ended mine as I can't really be assed with the hassle of it all, making sure everything was "bang on" because believe me they want to know the ins and outs of a gnats *** it was more a hobby than trading but it's not seen like that, trading is trading and you need receipts for purchases and sales for the last blah blah blah it's feckin relentless!

I'd still check with the company your with before committing to one just to be 100% sure

No, don't do it, stick with the beemer!!

If you buy a WRX you will have "STi envy", if you buy an STi you will have a "heavy, slow off the lights 6 speeder"...

The policy is for Social and Domestic as well as Business, the business vehicles are on a separate policy and anyone who the policy holder allows can drive the vehicles so I'm pretty sure I'm legit.

If you want the faster type impreza and you can afford the insurance then get the sti but if you want the slower type impreza with cheaper insurance then get the wrx . I was once like you so i went and bought a wrx with an sti engine , i was then no longer confused on which one to get

Should I buy a STI?

Answer - Go and test drive a WRX and a STi...

Then you will buy the STi

90% Of WRX owners try and get to STi power/mods so just skip the hassle and get the STi
