Default Need some advice please guys

Ive currently got the hsd coilovers (they were on the car when i bought it). The ride is hard, id imagine they would be great on track. I tried to adjust the dampening ang guess what the adjuster snapped on both the nearside struts . I love the car buts its starting to cost money. Ive two options really

A. Stick with what i have and live with it
B. Spend the best part of £400 on a set of second hand bilsteins and eibach springs, fit them and then get the geo done.

What would you do?

Depends on what you want.

You've said they're too hard, so obviously not for you then. Are you going on track?

If not, I'd say go for the bilsteins/eibach and sell the coilovers on, all personal preference.

Cheers Scott. I will be going on track at some point but it will be mostly a daily car. The value of the coilovers will be less now the adjusters have come off . Not sure how much it would cost to rectify that? Pretty sure the offside will turn out the same if i attempt to adjust them.

Personally as a daily driver I don't think I could cope with coilovers. I think bilsteins/eibach with ARB and droplinks will make a nice daily driver.

No idea what the coilovers are worth or cost to repair, I'm sure someone will chime in with a cost.

I would adjust the other 3 to a softer setting, drive round the block a few times and see if they go to desired softness (if not then buy a softer setup) if they are sufficient enough I would look into having bolt repaired/replaced or try making a slot where bolt snapped and use a flat headed screwdriver to adjust it

Give them a spray with wd40 or simular over a period of about 2days before attempting to undo others

Thanks mate. Going to have another look and see if i can manually adjust them with a socket and do what you suggested. If thats better i will buy a set of adjusters. If nothing else its far cheaper thank i thought it was going to cost when the adjuster snapped.

Because that would be too easy lol. I would personally rather try to adjust others and if they're ok check if suspension is soft enough for you by going for little drive (obviously you will only be judging the 3 corners you can adjust).if it is soft enough then I would prefer to change an adjuster as to changing whole suspension setup for sake of bolt!

I've got a couple of options the one you suggest as its onl £6 a corner, chances are I will need all four. I 'may' try that first, cheapest option. I'm guessing the new adjusters will screw quite easily in? Probably won't in my case lol. Either going to try that or get some replacement suspension. I have a feeling it's been set on hard settings by the previous owner and then people have been worries about messing with then in case what's happened to me happened to them. I'm indecisive when making decisions so this should be a barrel of laughs. Appreciate the advice though mate and if you were me what would you do? My only concern is waiting for the new adjusters, fit and adjust them and I still don't like it, patience isn't my strong point either lol.

If it was me I would try to adjust others without excessive force in fear of snapping them (after spraying with the wd40 for couple days previous). If they move ok then try the 3 wheels on softer setting and if ok buy new adjuster/s. Would definitely think this is cheaper and less work than changing all. Good luck mate

Not good! Yea try the wd40. If they do all end up snapping and you can get replacement adjusters then I would still do that. Then if you dont like them once fixed, you can atleast sell or swap them in working order.

Coilovers on a road car are harsh at best.

I had a grands worth of avo monotube coilovers on my old 3dr sierra, even on soft they were ****ing harsh. Not ideal for a daily!

Could be spring rates tho, do you know what pound springs are on it?

I'm not sure mate. At a guess 7kg front, 5kg at the rear, well that's what drift works said it would be

7kg lol?

They might hold the seats up i guess lol

Fyi the fronts will probably be around 300-350lb and rear 150-200lbs at a guess.
Softer ie lower pound springs may work.

Contact faulkner springs, tell them what suspension you have and what you want the car to do, they will custom make springs for around £70 a pair.

Maybe they meant the weight of the actual springs?

But i dont reckon that would be 7kg either lol

Who knows eh!

They're more than likely 7kg springs, meaning that it'll take around 7kg to compress the spring 1mm ( I think)
