Default Wow what a difference!

I had a little but of an impromptu day off work today, so i thought i would try and sort the hesitation out on my car between 2-3k.

So the jobs to do were clean the Solenoid and Clean the MAF as well.

Baring in mind the car when you changed gear it would rev up when you dropped the clutch and was little lumpy and jerky at times as well

So i popped to halfrauds and bought some Carb cleaner and electrical contact cleaner too... plus a new air freshener for my troubles :-) I also bought some engine degreaser (which i need some help with but thats for a different thread)

So took the solenoid off, connected the green connectors under the dash and cracked on spraying carb cleaner into it, it came out the other side just as clean as it went it tbh... but it had a bit of a clean anyway i guess....

So onto the MAF took it out and got cracking cleaning that. I couldnt believe how dirty it was, when i say it was caked in filth it really was properly caked, ended up going through almost half a can of spray getting all off the gunk off the contacts and wires.

So left it to dry for an hour or so and reinstalled it. Took the negative off the battery as well to reset the ECU.

Fired her up and she immediately sounded so much smoother on tickeover. Let her warm up and went for a spin to test out my fine craftsmanship.....

Jesus wept, she drives like a totally different car. So much smoother, less like hitting a brick wall through the gears, no overrev when your drop the clutch and to top it off she appears to pick up a lot better on the low end

VERY VERY happy!

I think the guy that sold it to me noticed it was starting to run a little lumpy and changed the fuel filter and it didnt fix it so decided to get rid. £20 of spray and it now drives like a new motor, id say cleaning the MAF has solved 95% of the problems with the car that i was worried out... Shame i just cant clean my gearbox!

Does it have a K&N air filter, heard that over oiling them causes the MAF to grot up

Same as mine mate, I spent time disconnecting my battery to reset ecu only to find out on here that it only works on classics lol.

To reset you're ecu you will need to use and obd2 diagnostic tool

Are you sure buddy?

As i had an issue with boost the other day, where it was only boosting to 8psi, did some research on it and it turns out that i did something the car didnt like... which i cant work out what, but whatever it was it didnt like it.

Turns out that it turned off the electronic boost and was just using the wasgate pressure? So negative off the batter reset the ECU and it was bang on when i hooked it back up was boosting back to 18-20psi again .

Positive mate aye, classics can reset via disconnecting battery, newage cars need diagnostic tool to reset.

Was told on here and then confirmed by a subaru specialist.
