wagons look good in silver or grey (dont know the colour code but its the rb5 grey) that would look good with dark rims like hyper black with red calipers etc

I agree that it's for you to decide on the colour.
One comment I'd make though is to think about how it might affect the sale of the car if you were to get rid of it.
It's a Subaru, and I'd say that your main source of buyers would be Subaru lovers, which means they'd expect a 'Scooby colour'.
Rare colours are helpful. White hawks apparently go for a bit more, so WR1 blue (although marmite) might be OK.
(Obviously there's exceptions to the rule).

less is more these days-max power days are long gone
rb5 grey
p1 front lip
morretts could look good aswell
some decent 17" wheels-rota's are a favorite
lowered on coilovers-but not crazy low
and a big set of front brakes
this is all you will need for a smart looking impreza

If you want a blue, how about "Reddish Blue" (Colour Code 65C) - not that I'm biased! I'm pretty sure it was a factory colour for a MY96 as well as MY97. I always think it looks very similar to the BMW M3 colour (called Estoril Blue) of a similar age:

I'd check out aqua blue, it's a Subaru colour similar to wr1 blue but nicer in my opinion. Had an Maltese import wrx in that colour a few yrs back, looked great and I never saw another impreza with the same colour!

Steel blue mica is my favorite color for the classic, although I do like what lordharding was thinking with the canary yellow; would be a very unique approach, especially on a wagon! It's your car whatever color you choose you'll like!
