What a$$hole designed the impreza???
Today i spent around 6 hours on and off between rain showers removing the gearbox from my car.
What a complete **** of a job, and seriously in 2 minds wether i can be **** to put it back together or just keep stripping it!
If i get chance tomoz ill strip the box down and stick some pics up of what as broken....

Things that took me ages were one of the roll pins, well the one for the osf drive shaft would only come 3/4 way out, no matter what i used to try and punch it out. Took ages but finally got it out.
And the last bolt for the turbo heatsheild, had to remove the complete airbox to get to that ****er, then could undo the downpipe bolts. But on the downpipe to mid section it didnt seem to have nuts, one of the bolts just undone, but the other just turned the cone bit... Ended up just removing the spring clamp bits from the centre section.
Had trouble removing the lower bolt and nut by the steering linkage as they were extreamly tight.
Tubby, at least i do all own stunts....

Im considering breaking it and getting rid just so i wont ever have to come back on here to ask for 'advice' that no one really seems to have experience of...
But then again i might just put a ppg box in it and stick around just to annoy you....

it doesnt annoy me at all your quite amusing as newb idiots go.
most people dont have experience of rebuilding wrx boxes beceause they are crap, they just fit an sti box or buy the sti in the first place

Just wait till you try fitting another one, im assuming youre doing it on your back... its not easy.
Even harder fitting a 6 speed as they are considerably heavier.
If my memory serves me right matty@poleposition is selling uk 6 speed for 1200 in his clearance thread... bargain imo

Ill need everything tho, not just the box.
Diff, shafts etc etc and if its dccd will take a little while to figure out how to wire up im sure.
If the ppg is stronger then thats the way to go imo.
But i cant justify spending the cash at the mo.

Honestly, if you're looking for big power, buy a recon box from David @ APi for around £500, sell it and buy an STi.
That's what I will do with my WRX Wagon eventually, I'll squeeze as much out of the TD04, drive it for a while, then get an STi.

Well ive been offered a 45k mile box off an 07 wrx, just waiting to find out if the part number matches.
Thing is tho, the car has a 24kish api rebuilt engine so that should be good. But the box doesnt work lol.
I wont be after massive power, say 350bhp 350lbft at some point but the std box wont take it.

The max I'd attempt on the 5 speed would be 330/330, even that may let go.
Even adding PPG isn't a failsafe, why do you think the STi comes with thicker/stronger driveshafts too?
The weakest component will eventually fail.
Honestly, either keep it around 300bhp or chop it in for an STi.

I only bought the car as a stop-gap for a couple of years, it didnt last more than 9 months...
Ill work out costings over the next few days and go from there.
Breaking it i estimate id return 2k ish as is. If it was running and sold id get 3-3.5k hopefully.
So obviously I want to spend the least on it, but even if i did sell it, it would still leave me 3k short of a good sti...
But for 6k+ there are better cars out there.

The box is non dccd.
Im almost certain you can just bolt the box in, the only thing needed is stub shafts for the fronts to convert yours to male ends, afaik the rear diff and prop are compatible

Bang in a recon box and either drive/enjoy or get the 3.5k and then go from there.
Then either stump up the rest of the cash to get a nice STi or finance the remaining if funds are tight, better than throwing money at something that will never be what you actually want.
I love my WRX and don't mind banging in a couple of grand to get what I want from it, but I know where to draw the line and step up to an STi when the time is right.
