Default Bug STI?

Hi guys,

After a little info, almost got my head round the different variations of classics now, however I'm looking at a Newage which I know next to sod all about, this one in particular;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-SUBAR...item3387464d78

Now I'm guessing this is a UK car? And am I right in thinking it won't have the same spec as a JDM STi? Are we talking 265bhp stock and no DCCD etc? 5 or 6 speed? Can see it has the big Brembos which is good.

Would also be good to hear any views as to whether this is a good model or just another watered down UK version.

I prefer the silver bug that's on there for the same money.

Pretty sure it is a UK car, won't have DCCD (UK got DCCD on 05MY), but will be 6 speed. Yes about 265bhp maybe a bit more if Prodrive ECU on it!

Good car as it is low mileage, but still a bit pricey IMO!

Plenty of room for modding though if you want more power.

I agree with jimmy it is a bit pricey if you ask me I had one about a year ago full s.s.h similar millage ect. I had 5k for in in part ex against my scoob I have today which was a good price for part ex but if I recall correctly the dealer put it up for 7k ended up taking about 6k for it. My opinion if you could get it for around 6.2k then its a good price. But then a car is only worth what your willing to pay for it id be willing on say 6.2 but then someone else might say its worth 7 all day long its all down to the individual.

Clean, stock, good spec, low miles... That's why they're asking top money. Get haggling!

Exact same car as my daily driver. Except mines black, a little rarer. However they are quite rare even in blue. Much better looking car than normal bug Sti. Looks very clean, it's up for cheaper than I'd ask for my car. You will find cheaper bug sti's but as it's a trader, trading from nice premises you will always pay a touch more. You have more chance of buying a good car from a reputable dealer. And ask for an extended warranty foc with the deal.

And dont these 'V7' STis have the better engine of the majority of newages we can get our hands on bar the JDM newages? Something to do with proper Forged pistons? Or am I being mislead?

Cool cheers for the info everyone, Paddyhoey I'm assuming it should have STi stickers on the foglamp covers? Guessing it's probably had a front bumper repaint at some point and they haven't been replaced.

Correct. Fully forged pistons instead of a semi forged.

Yes, should have decals on the covers.
But I've de badged my car, leaving the fog cover decals on. I've been tempted at times to remove them also, prev owner may have just removed them ? But the prodrive bumpers are prone to stone chips.

I paid 5k for mine nearly two years ago with 60k on the clock 3 previous owners ( first for 7 years) and full service history, folder full of receipts and all old mot's and mint in and out, did look at a few before I found this one for sale and had to travel, once I saw it and took her out for a spin and the dealer let me put it on a ramp to look under was sold!
As stated any car price is what you are willing to pay that is for you, some don't like the bug's due to the look etc but as only made for two years good ones are hard to find.

Pic of mine, not a prodive, was standard but with some simple none expensive mods can see 330bhp.

Removed the mesh, used a hacksaw blade to cut the bottom of the badge mount flush then a bit of black paint, easy!!

I think you would get pretty close to that considering the condition as it looks in the picture and the mileage ,looks very clean .

Jamie that certainly is a good looking bug!

Guys am I right in thinking the car in the original link whilst being a Prodrive model doesn't mean its automatically 300hp? And that it will still need the PPP box to have been ticked to have this?

I may well be wrong as not all that clued up on newages but im sure prodrive did two packages. One was a styling package and one was a performance package.
The styling one got the fancy front bumper like the one in your link (not sure what else they got) and the performance one got intercooler pipe, fuel pump, sports cat, back box and ecu with a power increase to circa 300 ponies.

Things get very confusing with bugeye STI s and the Prodrive moniker.

There was a bugeye JDM Prodrive STI, the car in yur link isn't one of those (no roof vent for starters and a Type UK badge).

Then there was a bugeye Prodrive style UK STI, the car in your link is one of those... the differences were cosmetic (different front bumper, grille, side skirts, rear spoiler).

Then the Prodrive style models or the standard models could have the Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP) applied. This increased the power from around 265bhp to 305bhp.

If it has this it should have a certificate with it to say it has been done!

My guess is the car in question is a Prodrive style with no PPP!

Correct !!

My car is a prodrive style bug. And didn't have the prodrive performance pack fitted. A simple remap will provide all the benefits a PPP did anyway.
