So I would like an Impreza...
...and figured this might be a good place to join!
Currently drive a Fiesta ST which I love, however the time has come to sell that and replace it with something else. I've decided to set a budget of £3k as I want something I don't worry about that I can throw my mountain bikes in the back of and drive to the top of a mountain! And what could be better than an Impreza.
I'm a bit unsure as to whether to go for a bug eye or a classic. I appreciate a bug eye will be more refined but perhaps a bit less 'raw' and involving. Any thoughts will be much appreciated. Looks like a great forum so I can see myself sticking around, off to the classifieds I go.

You are right, the classic and bugeye in standard form are completely
different. I went from a classic my97 wagon to a bugeye my01 wagon,
the classic wagon power delivery is as you say quite raw where as the bugeye
power delivery is much more refined.
Both of my impreza's were/are in standard guise so I can't comment
on modified versions but I am sure someone else will be along to give
you their impressions.

depends what else you want to "feel" while your in the impreza if you like raw then the classic is the place to be, and you will get a nice STI wagon for your budget, if it was me and judging by your current ride i'd go with a classic, much more seat of the pants as well as it being your only car, I have a blob wagon PPP and an STI Type R, if I could only have one car it would be a classic wagon, best of both worlds.

Here you go, and worth the small extra because it comes from a well known trader with a very good rep.

I currently have a Wagon and a Saab Aero as a daily, the Wagon was originally supposed to be a saloon but when I saw it I thought it was unique and had to have it, now I am saving for a Type RA or Type R (haven't decided which yet)!! I'd say for what you want the Wagon will be perfect, maybe look at a nice classic STi Wagon for as you say best of both worlds or if something newer go for maybe a blob. Seats fold down giving you plenty of space but with them up you might be surprised how small the boot is! Hurst Cars are pretty good

I've been thinking about it overnight and I think I might be better with a saloon. I can get roof bars and put the bikes on there, which would still leave me with space inside for the rest of the gear and would minimise the risk of the bikes knocking together and getting damaged. If we removed the rear seats completely, we would also be able to sleep in the back (I've slept in worse places before).
And for the rest of the time when it's not being used for transporting bikes it would be a more fun car to drive. Not taking anything away from the wagon but I think the 5 door might be for me.

Why would you go to all the bother of taking seats out won't be long before you knacker the threads in the captive part that the bolts screw into.
They also say that wagons handle better because of a little bit extra weight at the back.
But your life your money.

It's likely that I'll only need to sleep it in twice and I only plan to keep the car for 9 months or so as I'll be in a job car after that.
So for the other 99% of the time I'll be using the car as a daily I won't actually need the Wagon's space.

If I had the spare cash, I'd snap that up.
