Default flickering check engine light!! please help

hi guys

went to test drive a scooby facelift today and the car runs fine but i notice the check engine light came on and then started flickering. The owner say he will take the car to have it read. Apparently its maf, my question is can a hks mushroom filter cause this? Just that am getting mixed answers from people.

some say maf probably dirty and then i have one guy saying engine oil might be low, but surely the oil would come on.

Also with scooby is it true to check oil when its stone cold? because someone told me when warm the reading would be always low due tothe layout of the engine

thank you!

Two words. Walk away.

Induction kits, especially HKS, have been been known to kill the Impreza engine due to shaking the maf sensor to bits or covering it in oil.

Might be a quick fix, might be the start of internal meltdown. Personally, I'd let the current owner sort it out before even considering to part with any money. I bet he has seen the light come before you took it for a test drive.

Could also be faulty knock sensor but as above v5/6 mafs don't like aftermarket air filters
