new 2015 STI. Would you buy ?
http://www.subaru.com/mobile/auto-sh...roit-2014.html
Just watched the presentation, not bad.
But: still just 305 bhp, and seems lot bigger(so heavier too) than my old 2005 sti. Also has the 2.5 engine...
Still, inside and suspension is probably a lot better.
Would you have a 2.1 built and keep old sti, or buy the new one ?? I am inclined to do the former
Your opinions please

why is it the 1st thing you all moan about when you have seen the new impreza is ....it is only ??? BHP don't you think that Subaru have developed the car with that power for a reason and not to annoy all of the forum guys around the world. That amount of power on a road car is sufficient for most needs anyway and if you wanted XXXBHP go and buy a McLaren or Ferrari or other supercar......
it is like spoilers on cars the manufacturer spends a lot of money testing the cars shape and wind tunnel test and then the modifier brigade come along and put spoilers made by boeing on them and think they are doing the trick ( little do most of you know about spoilers )
just my opinion.....

Exactly! 300 bhp is not enough! I had my sti at 330 ish for many years now and is fun, but I can do more!
I expected to see some clever bits on the new car, if not more power at least some stuff to reduce consumption.
The way it is now, it is nothing special - my opinion 9 years ago it was, but not any more.
There are plenty of sedans or hatches which provide this and more, and then I didn't start comparing it to the audis which come out at even 666 bhp lol and clever technology like not using all pistons and so on!
Comparing it to a ferrari is plain pointless...
So for me the only thing which is positive is the interior and suspension. Looks is ok also, but still think my blob looks better

And is not really any bigger than the current Saloon
As yet, European Spec has AFAIK not been released but its expected to have the FA20DIT - 2.0L Direct-Injection/Turbocharged engine that is currently in the Forester XT (with a bit more power )

I wasn't comparing it to a Ferrari I was just saying if you want lots of BHP etc etc go and buy a supercar such as a Ferrari
and also the comment ' careful Nikon man knows a lot about spoilers ' I have spent a lot of my life in and around cars and car manufacturing and testing especially fast powerful cars and things like tyres,,spoilers..and aero kits are very much part of that scenario

Problem is, when you buy a new car these days, you expect at least a 3 year warranty (unless you buy a ford!). It is all very well upping the power to 350-400bhp but that will put a lot of extra strain on all of the components.
If that is the case, then the only way for Subaru to offset to warranty costs is to put the price up. Do this and they put themselves into a different market altogether.
Personally, I think 250bhp is enough to have fun on UK roads. 300 was nice in my old STI, but I don't sit there in my Newage WRX thinking 'if only'.
Just my take on it anyway.

Truth is boys and girls we don't need to worry as Subaru won't be importing the new wrx to the UK.
I agree they should of produced a little more bhp to keep ahead of the Germans.
I have a wrx sti MY11 that produce 320 bhp with the help of pro r and with a little more will go up the 340 bhp with ease so why don't subaru do the same?

Not sure how much the new STi will be, but going from recent models, Im guessing it will be around the £35k mark, and probably be worth half of that after a year!!
If I was after something with near 300bhp, 4wd and around the £35k mark, Id be looking at a new Golf R or Audi S3(they even do 4 door versions if you got kids)
Problem is with Subaru, 15 years ago a Impreza was cheap, fast, practical and there wasn't really anything in its price bracket that would come close to the Impreza's handling, performance, now it seems that most new hatchbacks could hand a new Impreza its **** on the famous twisties and be much quicker on the straights too!!
Personally I think Subaru got it right with the new BRZ, but it just lacks a bit of power, but lets hope they could sort that out, and keep it at the same price of the current car!!!

Fair comment to the aero and drag reduction and tyres, but I don't believe they have changed that much on the new model to be so much better than the old(er) ones. I do believe the suspension is a lot better, it is already in the 2010 version. But ultimately, it is torque and power what it is all about. I think it will be no match on any track or real life road against a 400ish well setup blob or hawk - which is not that expensive to have.
So many people have their engine rebuilt to 2.1 or higher with proper components and good turbo's - it is a good reason for that.
The 2010 sedan was considerably bigger than my blob, when I drove it I felt it all over. Felt more like a luxury saloon than a fast midsized saloon, and I personally didn't like the extra size.
I am curious to see what we get here in Europe though, hope it it will come with the FA engine and more power.

Pistonheads has the new STI UK at under £30,000.
Problem is, if I was going down the new car route I couldn't take the Impreza's depreciation hit and would end up plumping for a BMW 135.

I wish Subaru would concentrate on there own brand of cars, instead of trying to copy there European competition, ever since Hatch Impreza they have tried to make the interior and gadgets as luxury as Mercedes or BMW and the last saloon they got rid of the big spoiler and lairy styling to make it discreet as a Audi and then charge £30k+ for these new additions!!
Give me back the crazy styling, and cheap nasty interior and paper thin metal doors and orange peel paintwork, and the money saved give it a bit more power and charge under £30k, and the Impreza would be king of the road again!!!
