Default Not a great start to the day!

We'll............. I left my house at 0525 to head to work this morning. I got two miles down the road and lost all power. Pulled in to the side of the road and started to have a look in the p11sing down rain and darkness.

It sounded like the fuel pump wasn't priming.

Mean while i was parked on Walton Bridge and traffic was starting to build (Sorry if i made you late).

Checked fuses etc and alarm but all appeared ok.

I gave the RAC a call at 0545. At 0800 they showed up and tested there was a spark and then reiterated what i had just told them about the fuel pump not priming.

He then tells me he'll have to tow me home...... And as you can imagine the debate began.

While the guy was scratching his head and realising that he'd just lost the argument i text Rich at FB Tuning explaining my dilemma.
Despite he was on a day off he told me to get the car to him and he'll do his best to investigate and sort.

RAC were more than happy to get a low loader to me and take it all that way

Rich is there on our arrival and waiting for me and pushes the car in to the work shop.

Usual tests completed, followed by fuel pump out (RCM). It's wired to a 12volt battery and tested and shown as fine.
Relays from under dash inspected and tested and all fine.
A live feed is then taken from the battery to the connection but still nothing.

The connection underneath the rear passenger seat (Drivers side) is then inspected and he found that it had decided to melt itself.

Rich then starts stripping the wires back to a healthy and useable point and begins soldering, heat wrapping and then adding additional protection.

The car works perfectly again.

Rich was in a massive rush as he'd made plans for his day off. Despite this, no rush was taken on the work he did.

I've used FB Tuning for a few years now. It's a 3 hour round trip at times but well and truly worth it.

This is the sort of customer care that makes certain garages great, good to hear you got it sorted and hope you didn't **** his day off work

Great service.

Do we know what made it melt? Was the connector corroded at all?

The old girl is 17 in a few months.

Thinking its deteriated over the years and then both wires have touched causing the burn.

The location is not ideal. All the fat ***** on the back seat over the years don't help. This happened on my V5 STi and caused no end of headaches.

It's a fairly common fault on Classics IIRC

Yes, a known potential fault on classics.
