hi guys in on my 3rd Impreza now had 2 classics but have gone for a bugeye wrx this time, where would be a good place to start for stage 1-2 tuning? Im not mechanically minded and have a basic knowledge, the car is fairly standard apart from cat back zorst and panel filter, next steps will be cooling and breathing so bigger core rad and fmic but with a starter budget of say £1500 over the next 6 months or so what should i go for engine wise to gain safe bhp? The idea is to aim for 500+ as a finished car but want the car to not be running on the very limit i want it to be good and strong. Any advise greatfully received

You won't need a fmic until you reach 400 ish bhp. Even then if you're only have the occasional blast on the road you'll still be fine.
You don't really want to do too much to the car with out it being mapped.
Your best bet is to start stock piling parts like decat/sports down pipe, k&n panel filter.
Brakes are always the best way of going quicker. Depending on what wheels you already have. You won't go far wrong with a set of brembos off an Sti.
Have you seen the breaker/trader section? You won't go wrong with MBDevelopments, great bloke and even better parts.
But first and foremost, get the car to a specialist for a proper going over and service and take their advice.

Don't think you will see 380+ safely on standard internals! standard box ect, everything will just break big time, if you want 500+ then forged internals, massive turbo, 6 speed box, and that's just for starters mate, with the budget you have I would just go for 330 bhp.

Cheers, i have standard 17s on the car atm, 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears with drilled and grooved all round and new pads as well just had the whole lot overhauled and fitted new, would a full inner wing induction kit be better than the standard with k&n filter? Mailnly as the standard plastics look ugly and clumsy, plan was to stock pile and have the work all done and a good map, i had an apexi ecu fitted to my classic is there anything like that for the bugeye? Also what about injectors, turbos ect...cheers

Again, same as the FMIC, K&N panel filter will be fine up till 400 mark.
Not sure on the bugs but duncan@racedynamix works Bristol and i think your area (Mapper).
The ESL daughterboard might be an option or the ECUTEK.
If your brakes are the standard Subaru 4 pots they really aren't the best. You'll notice a massive difference with a Brembo set up.
If you don't like the engine plastics, there are a couple of ways around tarting up the bay. There's a trader on here called tim and runs Rallytech, he can offer slam panels, alt covers etc. There is also a guy on here called L0ckey who can dip a lot of parts in almost any colour, pattern or graphic you want.

Hi there
WRX and 500bhp,you are asking for lots of money at first place.
WRX engine in standard form should be OK up to 350-400bhp(some guys have run WRX at 400bhp without the issue, but its very rare to see to run those bhp on standard WRX engine),above that I would strongly recommend forged engine
Really depends on the budget and from this I would go,but when you are looking to run 500bhp,then you will need lots of money like for new engine(preferably forged),gearbox, brakes suspension etc.
Induction kit you don't need at the power what you will be running, yours OE Airbox doesn't look good, but is and will be OK up to 350-380bhp and yours TMIC at moment which you have fitted should be OK up to 350bhp,above that STI TMIC or FMIC will do the job
ESL Daughterboard is not needed on yours,ESL is good for classic and on the New age yours ECU can be mapped like via EcuTek or via Open Source, really depends on yours budget
Hope this helps

Really if you are thinking go above figures which I've posted then I would strongly recommend to sell yours WRX and get Bugeye STI and you will have better starting point and this car will and should take 450bhp without the issue
WRX is nice car,but when you wanting to make from WRX 450bhp monster will cost you lot more than bugeye STI
I know how is it,have owned WRX wagon which has run 490bhp and later on 555.5bhp

I then saved enough cash for the map by Duncan (racedynamix) then bolted all on and got it mapped straight away
My blob is running 262 with very minimal mods I know it's not a lot in comparison to most bit good place to start
Loads of good guys and girls on here that helped me through it all
Gl with the modding can't wait to hear more
