Default PRIVATE PLATE..???

Dear all, can someone please assist .??
I recently purchased a Sub and with it came a lovely personalised plate...
The car was sold with the Private Plate on the Bill of sale.
I realise that the Number does not belong to me but the DVLA/Treasury, but in the future , if I choose to sell the Present Car , will I be given the opportunity to retain the registration plate for further cars..hence reverting the present car to its original Number with me retaining the Personal Plate and hence being able to put on a new car.!!
Hope this makes sense...to me it makes a lot more sense than the reply I got from the DVLA, when I queried..Ive read it 6 times and still can't understand it.!!

If the car was sold to you with the private plate on and you now have a v5 in your name with the private plate on then you now own that registration

If you sell the car on in future you can either transfer the plate to another vehichle (£80) or you can put it on a certificate for 1 2 or 3 years

What's the private reg out on interest

Its called putting the plate on retention and is about £25 yrly. That enables you to retain ownership whilst not using it. Your car will either return to its original plate or be assigned a new by dvla which is correct to the yr of first registration.

Assuming this is a transferable number ? Check your v5 in the special notes section. It may say non - transferable reg.

If it is an imported car and was registered on the plate it will be non-transferable, I enquired about one a year or so back.

It'll say on the V5 if its non-transferable (section 3 - special notes) my Zafira has a non-transferrable registration mark!

I tried to buy S8 ECC when it was sold on a car a couple of years back but as it was originally registered on the car when it came to the UK there was no other plate that the DVLA would allocate to it, My car has had more private plates than owners, lol
