My great uncle who is 82 years old has been smoking 60 **** a day since the age of 14 and does not have cancer or ill health.
So your implying every 2.5 Subaru has ever built will go pop?

But it does not run as much boost or ignition advance. Therefore cylinder pressure is lower, which may help with the life span of fragile pistons/HG.
I am not saying the 2.5's are good, but I think its b8llocks when some says the engine WILL go pop just because its a 2.5.

make up reasons that you hope your engine wont fail if you wish, the facts prove its rubbish.

But there are things you can do to prolong the lifespan of your engine and running it in 95 RON is not a good way to do it!
I'd beg to differ about the brain damage though mate, I bought a Mazda hatch with a chocolate engine myself

Hi,
heres an example of what happens when using poor fuel..................
Can you see it ??
You can now, that’s what’s called a ring land failure and is due to detonation caused by poor quality fuel, eventually the broken bit rattles around, wearing the bore with debris until the engine is beyond repair, signs of this already show on the piston skirt.
The images shown are a piston from a 2.5 STI hatch that the owner admitted to running on 95 and sometimes 97 octane fuel, food for thought ......
cheers

As above the standard WRX is fine, its when you start mapping and fiddling that things go wrong...something well documented in that sticky thread at the top of the general page.
Anyway, congratulation on purchasing a fine looking motor.
