Default Big Brembos on standard WRX Bug

UK300 2001 with standard 18" wheels.

Can anyone tell me what these are meant to feel like? I paid an extra 400 for them when I recently bought the car but they don't stop on a sixpence and the brake pedal feels a bit spongey, about an inch and a bit of travel before they eventually start to stop the car. Are the brakes on these cars fairly progressive/a touch soft?

Not great compared to my Merc or wife's MX5...

I found the wife's old scenic more positive but most cars of that ilk are over-servoed so they do feel sharper. The Brembo's are more progressive and will actually take more of a beating over a spirited run

Pad compound will give different feels/progressiveness.
My guess is you have poor pads in

Normal B-road driving, very little driving style, no budget.

But I do like to stop as soon as I brake.

try bleeding them fella. if they are a retro fit they might have air in the system. that should help firm up the pedal.
