Default Turbo choice?

After having my 2.1 mapped at a mere 288BHP I'm actually really enjoying the early spool and worried I could ruin how the car is on the road simply chasing figures by fitting a big laggy turbo.
2.1 bottom end
V4 STI heads
ESL Daughter-board mapped (two maps available).

Due to needing the car back on the road I had to slap on a TD04 and the original catted exhaust. Original target was 400BHP.

What Turbo set up would you choose?

sc38/sc42 depends on how much spool vs performance you want

That's the thing, if I go for spool will I get bored in the end with the lack of top end?

I found my Type r at 330bhp on a vf 34 a little lacking at times when I got used to it, but I was going mental in those instances and just wanted ever so slightly more. It was restricted by the top mount and injectors though and thinking about it if i'd have gone front mount and bigger injectors it would have been perfect at about 360bhp.

When I eventually get round to re-commissioning it I too shall be heading for the 400 mark but think I'll be opting for twin scroll to get the best of both worlds.

I'm just worried it will be unusable as well at 400bhp, it's only on longer straights is it a little frustrating. I've seen a few vf48's going on here relatively cheap. Should I expect them to come in early as the rest of the VF series do?, as I understand these can reach 400bhp and when it's on the "economy" map it will still be usable.
I've a front mount fitted already and the plan is. To fit 740cc injectors.

I think the idea of a TD05 20g is out of the window really.

It's on the latest ESL board Tidgy. I thought standard headers would be ok up to or around the 400 mark so haven't really considered them.
The only thing that puts me off the SC42 is the price tag. I know you get what you pay for but the best part of £1800 isn't far off what I originally paid the car for lol.
A VF48 went on here the other week for £80 . Although they seem to go for £350-500.

In essence I want a cheap, standard position, early-spooling turbo with lots at the top end lol.

Ok i'll rephrase, a decent ecu,,,, lol. chuck a syvecs on it, not cheap, but for what it gives you well worth it.

headers can have a big affect on spool

Realy depends what you want from it matey, cheap isnt always the best way to go and it can compramise the whole car by having one thing wrong. i've got one of the new sc46 on my 2.5 and it sods off like a stabbed rat and im also still running standard headers, should be amusing when i eventualy get them changed and see what affect it has.

I know, it's all a bit of a mess, all caused by my selfish Mrs finding a job and me needing the car back on the road halfway through the build .
My understanding of headers is that the larger diameter they are the less back pressure you'd get which would create less spool? Unless they are a completely different design/path I'm a bit confused how they help?.

ESL will do for now, especially now it has AL and LC

Lol, good point. I've heard rumours the DCCD box should be ok, but I suppose I'll find out. I need to hunt out some graphs for VF48's on 2.1's.

Just found this ....https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...3-or-vf48.html

Looks like the 48 gets the vote over the 43. What are you planning to run on your 2.1?

A garrett gt2871r good for about 420bhp with good spool,i was going for a gt30r but it's a bit overkill for what i use the car for.think they are around 1300 quid
