Lo mate
As Alan says, fit a dawes, downpipe without cat, center section without cat and back box ( Scoobysport is a company that supply a good system). Dawes is good value for money, although you need some guages inside the car to monitor things when setting it up.
Air fuel meter, and boost guage.
Good place to start.

Air filter at the level talked about won't give a great deal for the cost.
Dawes is an item which can allow you to up the boost for little money.
DV is dump valve
The term resonator that Douster's on about is the item inside the drivers wing. It's there as a chamber for the air inlet. The air comes in above the drivers headlamp, down into the chamber then back up through the wing into the air filter assembly.

Mad Mac
Followed the same route myself recently on MY99.
Simple and reversible mods only for me I'm afraid.
Fitted an ITG panel filter (direct replacement for existing air filter) and got a Swana stainless steel backbox from a local guy who makes motorbike exhausts. Sounds better (not quite as loud as scoobysport). Then run the thing on optimax when you get it.
Costs = Airfilter £42 (inc vat)
B/box 2nd hand @ £90 but new @ £250 I think.
Not a massive but noticeable increase in power and engine feels much livelier mud better mid range. The ITG filter lets the car breathe much better and coupled with the backbox sorts it all out nicely.
ITG available on-line from Scoobyworld
Good luck

A boost gauge is a good idea if you intend to up the pressure.
The reason for mentioning the downpipe is because for the costs involved there is a *noticeable* gain in torque to be had.
Personally I found an air filter in the early stages to be worth hee haw, ended up selling it, only to buy another one when the mods dictated it as being a necessity.
Same happened with a back box change. Different note admittedly but probably didn't do a great deal for power until the boost was upped.
As for getting it done, I've been known to help a few peeps out. Only problem is getting the time to do it.
If you want a garage to do it, then best to ask what area you are willing to travel to, you should find there a few helpful members in this forum who can give you recommendations.

Watch it Scoty or I'll get Alan to come round and give you a slap!
Mac - no scuffs from my set up, any bigger wheels will rub rear arches, and yes, standard dampers with the H&Rs
