Full decat advise required

Hi folks
MY98 uk car
i have been told you can get some serious gains with a full decat? Is this correct? If so how much ? and what is the best system to fit?
Also i want to lower my car can anyone point me in the right direction? I am running 17's
Thanks

Try removing the centre cat first, on my '98 I replaced the centre section/backbox and what a difference it made to the acceleration and noise! I have thought about replacing the DP, but IMHO the benefits are not outweighed by the hassle factor at MOT time. My car passes the emissions test no problem when the front cat is up to temperature, to pass it with no cats either requires a "friendly" or "careless" tester or lots of fannying about temporally replacing bits of exhaust system.
I fitted a Scorpion system, which is identical save the stamp on the tailpipe to the Prodrive system. It cost about £300 from Motech, which is pretty good value. It's not bad, not as noisey as some, not as powerful as others, a good compromise. Turn up to a meet and have a listen and look at the various different types.
For powergains, check the dyno pages for various comparsions. But drivability is greatly improved even just with what I've done. One of the best mods out there for the Scoob.

Craig,
Despite wot Miles is saying re hassle factor the DP
replacement is the 1 that will have the biggest benifit.
If u want sound yeah do the center only but if u want gains
do the DP 1st. Or jus do the full shibang I`ve yet to c a 300+
BHP scoob still running with a std DP. BTW Falkland do a nice
DP section and not 2 expensive. Have run 1 for the past 3 years
myself w/o any probs

in reply to ur question re:decat and what to do
I have removed both cats and fitted a straight-thru down pipe, and at the rear had a Jap Box fitted in Dufermline. And the sounds is fantastic,u only have to find an MOT station that will pass ur car or just refit ur middle section once a year.(no need to give ur self hassle fitting the down pipe back on).the middle section is far easier
