Question

I know this should really be in the technical bit but only the knockhill posse will know what i'm on about. Just after the hairpin, accelerating out in 2nd, 3500 rpm, feels like rev limiter cutting in, bit concerned, next lap, same thing plus also happened in third gear, pulled of, let car recover for 30 mins, done a few test laps and problem never repeated, called it a day after that to be on safe side, never experianced this problem on any other laps i done early on the day, dougster mentioned fuel surge, i'm sure i heard a few other scoobys with the same problem and a p1 had the same problem at the same time as me ???????????, what exactly causes this and can it be prevented as this could be dangerous if someone was a bit to close behind.

cheers

I haven't read all the above thread, but I think the cheapest solution is just to fill her up before you head to the track !! Seems a shame to make the car heavier than it needs to be, but it seems to be the easiest way round the problem

Looks like you were having fun out there though !

Cheers

I've only experienced this once in probably over a hundred laps of KH in my STi UK. JohnS reckons he gets it regularly at the hairpin.

It might be that John goes faster than me ... but I'm never going to admit that

I got it in my E6 - but didn't realise what it was.

My take on it is that I never have the problem on public roads (clearly ) so it's not really a problem - I'll live with it.

The solutions (tank baffles / stuffing steel wool) aren't merited by the result ... for me ... but then again, it's up to you.

The shape of the Impreza tank ( + pump position) makes this a big problem. I've had it at KH and at Kames (Kames - I get it with 1/2 tank in the left hander approaching the hairpin)

Yes,

I get it regularly, but tend to drive around it these days when it first happens.

Keeping half a tank of fuel seems to be the only sensible solution, unless you want to spend lots of money on an anti-surge devices. Given that I'm never worried about the odd second or two lost around a track, I'm not prepared to pay loads to "fix" the problem, and am happy to ease off the accelerator/short shift to 3rd as I go around the hairpin to avoid the problem.

John

PS There's one bit of road near me when I can replicate this quite easily!

well, seems more common than i thought, true as you guys say, only really started after i got to half a tank. information about this problem goes into some right ******** theories on the above link but as stated above, not much point in paying big bucks for a problem only encountered on track. kart-man, yeah, was wicked fun out there, unbelievable the difference a fully de-catted exhaust and remap can do, was way much quicker than the town & county sti/wrx cars, and a few others on track, hehe. bring on the next one, thats after i rob a bank to pay for new front discs and get my new oil leak sorted.
cheers all.
