Road rage incident that scared me
#1
I had a very scary moment on the way home from work today (A737). A Mitsubishi Shogun pulled out of a junction right in front of me. I couldn't brake hard because I would most likely get hit from behind, so in a split second decision I decided it would be safer to pass him. Well he didn't seem to like that so he deliberately swerved right into my path, luckily there was nothing coming in the opposite direction. I used my superior acceleration to avoid him hitting me, and I could hardly believe what he did next. He pulled up alongside me and tried to force my car of the road. I might add at this point that I was determined I wasn't going to give in. I thought as we were approaching the crest of the hill that he'd back off. No chance, he was edging his car closer and by this time I was almost forced onto the grass verge. I reckon he had a death wish. Anyway I gave in and backed off. He then started to go very slowly and gesticulating for me to pull over. He looked like he was brandishing some kind of weapon. He had a very distinctive reg number so I asked around if anybody knew him. I found out he is some kind of hard man that's forever in and out of prison for voilence. So my dilemma here is, should I report this act of dangerous driving to the police, and risk the repercussions if he sees me again (likely as I travel that road at the same time evey day) or should I just let it go. If he did it to me he could do it again to someone less capable of defending his driving aggression. He might even kill somebody. What do you think I should do?

I don't think I'm in need of a social worker just yet, but thanks for the offer. This guy definitely needs a psychiatrist though. If he carries on like that he'll likely end up dead or back in prison.

I once owned a Suzuki Vitara (was actualy used off road regularly) which seemingly used to be the number one target for road ragers. In the three years I owned it I had 4 road rage incidents(2 serious)yet none with any other vehicle including the Elise. However one of the big problems is that even if you do report it the Police, they are not in the slightest interested unless there are independent witnesses. You also cannot risk carrying anything remotely (and I mean remotely) offensive in the car either as the Police can be bothered with that. These incidents were all reported in full detail with times etc but not a single thing was done. My ex was also onvolved in a scary road rage incident and yet again nothing was done. I always wondered what the outcome of that road rage incident on the M8 near Glasgow airport when a young baby was killed when one of the cars involved crashed. Probably all you can do is hope that he dosnt recognise you again, not exactly the way things should happen though.

If he's been in & out jail then a visit from the Police isn't really going to stop him. I'd have to say that to avoid repercussions I'd let it go but with a background reminder that you frequent that piece of road a lot and he could easily lie waiting should anything be investigated by the plod. Being bikers prepare's you to take avoiding action when Tw@ts like that noise you up.
Had he ran you off the road, well thats a different story but the fact you had a lucky escape you lived to tell the tale.

Lets just hope he crashes into a ditch somewhere and nobody helps him out
I see erratic driving everyday and it's got to the point where i don't feel safe amongst these people, so i'm thinking of just giving up my daily drive to work & taking the bus

I see erratic driving and minor road rage every day also. This though was different. He tried to force me into the oncoming traffic. I was doing between 50 and 60 at the time and the oncoming traffic about the same. So with a terminal speed of over 100 this in my opinion was attempted murder. It wouldn't just have been me, the car I could've hit might have wiped out a whole family. If I'd been driving a slower car or had I been a less capable driver, you would likely have been reading about our road deaths in the papers this morning.
If the moderators have no objection, I'll post up the registration number of the Shogun.
It was at the junction at the turn off for Howwood. The road widens to include chevrons. He forced me onto the chevrons and if I couldn't have taken the appropriate avoiding action I would have been forced into the east bound lane. I just made it in front of him before a car passed in the oposite direction. The reg number of the Shogun is H11 NNY. There were black screws between the two ones to make it look like his name which I later found out to be Handcock (HANNY)
Edited to add location and reg number.

Blade,
That is shocking m8
If the police arn't interested in criminal activities, perhaps they would be interested in him repeatedly speeding..... ( http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadID=132789 ).

Blade,
I had something similar happen a couple of years ago - some tw@t tried to force me into the center reservation on the M9 (after undertaking me) Literally missed the barrier by inches - normally would have put this down to complete incompetence if it hadn't been for the fact I'd previously confronted this knobend for doing something similar a few months back
Got on the phone to the local cops there and then and got put through to the traffic police department. Long story, but they ain't my favourite people in the world, but on this occasion they were pretty helpful. Because I knew which route this tosspot took regularly, they ended up waiting for him at the exit he took off the motorway (saw them there for a few days until they caught him) at which point they followed him into his works car park and gave him a bollocking Never saw him again after that. Still keep my eye out for him though
I've got a feeling I wasn't the only person to complain about his driving, which might explain why they went to such lengths (hint hint ) Anyway - at the end of the day it's up to you whether you report him. What about doing it anonymously?
