another question guys

does anybody use broadband on here, i've been trying for weeks to find a broadband supplier for my area but they all keep saying the phone line is to long in length from my home to the phone station, whats this all about, bloody house is in a brand new area only a few years old, think they would have designed there systems with a view of future systems an all,

does anybody have any solutions to this.

cheers again

Speak to GammonRoll who uses Blueyonder.
Swears by it (and at it sometimes!)

I'm using Blueyonder broadband. It's been fine for the past 20mths I've had it. Only had hassle once when they had to reboot something to get my cable modem to work again. BY did have some trouble with their mail servers on a couple of occasions, but nothing major.

I've heard a few folk complaining about the BY service, but I think it's down to where you live. Some areas seem to get more problems than others (especially down south).

In and around Motherwell has been fine for me.

I also use Telewest (blueyonder) broadband. Had a few hassles to begin with but very good. I'm well pleased.

I was hanging on to see if BT were going to upgrade my exchange but it still isn't planned for the work yet so I made the right choice. I also had to move my phone as well (this saved me around £50). If you are online a lot then its worth the £25 a month.

Chris, basically you are buggered. your house is nearly 8Km from the Telephone Exchange (It's down next to Cumbernauld Train Station). Extended reach ASDL has a technical limitation limiting the cable length from the Exchange to your house to 5.5Km
Basically every one on your side of the A80 can't get it.

BT (and I think tiscali) can offer you very fast broadband access via a Satellite dish these days. Ideal for those a bit too far from their local exchange.

Quite expensive set-up costs though, and more expensive than normal monthly costs

Yeah, there are distance restrictions with ADSL.

Is there cable in your area?

I use the 1mbit cable service from Telewest, it rocks

John,

I asked about that service in April, hope your sitting down.

It costs a small monthly fee of £60 and a mere £700 installation fee.

If you are thinking of ADSL installation in the house then you can check your line by dialling 17070 on a BT line
and then selecting options 3, 1 and then 2 then BT's system will call you back with the length of your line from the exchange
and whether you are close enough to receive the service.
