Why do us scots selling stuff to the local scots population in the scotish forum keep gettin moved to the for sale section, not every scotish user checks the for sale section and with the pace at which that section moves, your post lasts about an hour if your lucky, thats why we put stuff in here. i'm sure doug_siev, gus m and workshy will all agree, potential buyers in here prefer to buy locally as well so they can view goods locally. i dont see the point in over policing this forum with silly rules.

of course i'm open to any critacism on my view, perhaps i'm missing something ???.

Chrisyd,

If you wanted to buy petrol, would you go to a butchers??

If you wanted to buy a leg og lamb, would you go to the petrol station??

The Scotland forum is for community talk around the Scotland region. The For Sale forum is for ANYTHING that is for sale, regardless of area.

Regardless of the issues with the FOR SALE forum (that you have pointed out), were logically would be your first point of call to buy something for sale?

Not trying to be condescending in any manner what so ever, but that's the only way I can explain it.

I appreciate it can be annoying, but we will be looking to address the issue regarding to the way the FOR SALE forum is used and operates. Please bear with us.

Regards,
Shaun.

Shaun,

Do regular visitors to Scotland object to the for sale posts ? ... I suspect not.

I certainly don't mind them - how about others ?

If it ain't broke - I suggest you don't try to fix it.

Afraid, Shaun, if thats the only way you can describe it then its woefully inadequate!

Your argument is weak at best and the underlying point almost entirely irrelevant to the question posed. Agree with the above -who takes issue with the for sales in this forum? Can't see any regulars getting annoyed by it. For some items like wheels etc I would only consider the Scotland forum for practical reasons....long may it continue to serve as an all-round community forum!

all imho of couse

Whats the point of posting "Engine for sale" Location Aberdeen.

Potential buyer being from South East England. Is he gonna travel to Aberdeen ??? Is he gonna pay for postage ??? He's gonna look for an engine in the immediate area. For the amount of Scoobynetters using the Area posting thread of Scotland, its to benefit those Scoobynetters in....Scotland. Therefore I want to sell 4 x wheels in Scotland then I'm gonna hope someone see's these for sale in the Scotland section. If I post on the For Sale section then I can bet my bottom dollar its gonna end up on page 2 within 60 minutes, page 3 within 6 hours and possibly page 5 by 1-2 days. Hence the majority of BTTT postings. I speak for myself but I bet most of us Scottish Scoobynetters are happy to see For Sale in Scotland, please remember that the Scotland area is massive and I'm sure there is a need for the items for sale within these shores.

A bit of common sense should certainly be applied.

With all this in mind, maybe the scotish section should get a special dispensation from the scoobynet operating manuel (SOM) and be allowed to "privatly" source and sell bits and pieces within our local community.

Unhappy

For information, I just re-read this post and I find the tone of Shaun’s reply pretty distasteful.

As a result, I hit the RTM button and suggested that an apology would be in order.

We’ll see – but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I agree,

prefer to buy/sell local to save on postage and the hassle.
It is not that there is particulary heavy 'for sale' traffic comes through the Scottish forum.
Dont see a problem with it tbh

leg 'o' lamb......petrol station WTF !!!??? Come on, Get a grip.

Acouple of things from the new guidelines.

When will a thread be moved?

When the thread clearly belong in another forum

Just because it is an item for sale doesn’t necessarily mean it belongs in the for sale section. If the item is such that it could only reasonably be sold locally then it should remain in the area forum unless the members object to it being there. Most of us would probably prefer to buy/sell locally.

Scoobynet reserves the right to move any thread for any reason.
Surely a bit of discression is in order. Heavy handed tactics by moderators trying to prove themselves can only serve to alienate them from the rest of the community.

As it's already been pointed out there isn't really a lot of "for sale" traffic in the Scottish forum. I bought my current set of wheels that were posted on here. I probably wouldn't even have known if they had been in the "FOR SALE" section.

I`d take that soap box back m8 If I were u, it appears 2 be broken

If I was looking for something for sale in Scotland, the 1st port of call would be.....mmmm..... The Scottish forum not the "butchers" or the (dogs breakfast) sorrry, For Sale forum Hey just IMHO like.

Wholly agree with the points made so far - I have no objection to the odd For Sale post in here.

Indeed, have sold a few things to locals (Theo ) which otherwise would have swiftly disappeared into the black hole known as the For Sale forum.

As with all things, striking a balance is key - IMHO that balance has been achieved fairly well within this sub forum, without the need for posts being moved left right and centre.

Folks,

I did say in the post it was not meant to be condescending, and I did further take on board the critism of the fact that the FOR SALE forum is heavily used (which accounts for articals being moved down the list rapidly).

If I came across in this manner I apologise, but at the time it was the only example I could think of.

Like I said, the FOR SALE forum use and presentation has been given much thought over recent months. Please bear with us.

Regards,
Shaun.

So Shaun what about my comments? It's ok for moderators to post where they want but the people who make the forum the way it is are not allowed to??

I still believe that we (the Scotland forum contributors) should still advertise here.

Suppose it's the same old story, if your face fits

Pete,

No problems....

At least you are able to make a point without personally insulting me by say i'm "Patronising", "Woefully inadequate" & "Distasteful". Just as well I have extremely broad shoulders then.

I will always apologise when it is warranted.

Perhaps my busted soap box needs to be lent to some others on here.

Shaun.

Amanda,

So because I am a moderator, you are assuming that I know ALL actions that go on this board? And agree with them etc.... because that is the way you are coming across.

I apologise as I did not pick that specific post out. I will of course investigate, as you quite rightly say it should not happen. But until I know what actually went on I cannot comment.

P.S. The inclusion of , really does not help the situation and the remark you seem to make that "it's alright for them and not for us", really offends me, as this has never and will never be the case! Have you spoke about this specific issue with any other moderator, or have you contacted John direct?

I also add my vote for scottish "for sale" stuff staying in here for now - so long as it doesn't get too much traffic - if so, then decision can be reviewed?

Is it possible to put it to a vote? I'm sure given the low traffic of "for sale" stuff in this scottish forum, many would not mind the status quo to continue.

Imlach,
For the time being until I can discuss this in great detail with Simon, it will stay as it is (as regards to all for sale posts being directed to the FOR SALE forum). I fully understand your concerns, but if we split the scotland one out we will have to do the same for all areas.... which in effect will get rid of the FOR SALE forum. The rammifications of this will have to be thought about and considered.

Here's a question for all......

Is it really an issue that the items for sale need to be seperated (by area), or is it the fact that the FOR SALE forum is just so heavily used?

Because personally, if I wanted something or bought something, it has never bothered me whether it was from down the road or the other end of the country.

Regards,
Shaun.

Shaun,

Fair enough but I've still got a couple of issues with your response.

... personally insulting me by say i'm ... "Distasteful".
What I said was ...

... I find the tone of Shaun’s reply pretty distasteful.
That isn't a personal insult. It's criticism of the manner in which you responded to a perfectly valid point.

Further, you don’t answer the question over whether things will be left as they are here. Some clarity on this would be appreciated.

For fear of this developing into an unsavoury thread, I’m not going to push this.

AJ – I suggest you drop your side issue. It’s going nowhere and will only increase the chances of a worthy thread getting locked.
