Regular Glasgow Meet
#1
Ok people,
I’m new to all the Scooby stuff so I’ll make my excuses now so I don’t step on any ones toes! My apologies if I do.
It would appear that one thing we need to sort out in order to make this event successful is a consistent date, time and location i.e. first Tuesday of every Month at 1900 hrs at a given location etc. This way it should help people plan ahead and allow them to swap shifts, get permission from the missus plus most folk still get paid at the end of the Month so there should be some spare cash for petrol money.
Another point worth considering is, do we have them during the week or is weekends a better idea so the daylight can be utilised and a drive afterwards could be more enjoyable????
The location is fairly important too, as it has to be easily accessible by motorway, central to most of us, floodlit and also be large enough to accommodate several gleaming Scooby’s without causing too much disruption. Possible locations are:
Showcase in Coatbridge, Phoenix Retail Park in Paisley, The Quay in City Centre, Asda at Robroyston, Hamilton Retail Park or even Strathy Park (no funny comments, these are only suggestions). I’m sure everyone gets the general idea though.
I’m aware there may be some things that I’ve overlooked but I’m sure you guys will soon pick up on it. Your comments would be appreciated if this is the case.
The people responsible for arranging the last Meet did a great job, which resulted in a good night for all and got the ball rolling. So let’s keep the momentum going and make the Glasgow gathering as famous and popular as the rest of them if not better.
Cheers
John

Arighty john boy,
Welcome aboard!!!. Yeah hopefully some regular meets should be organised. Thing i found with last time was that we needed someone to sort of take control of it all (i am not volunteering here!!). Someone to get everyone together more instead of pairing off into dis-organised groups. An elder perhaps!!. Just my thoughts on it.
Any volunteers??

Following on from above, how does this sound folks???
Remember and add your thoughts to this please.
Tuesday 15 Apr at 1900 venue - Showcase at Coatbridge. (east)
Tuesday 06 May at 1900 venue - Phoenix Ret.Park Paisley.(west)
Tuesday 03 Jun at 1900 venue - The Quay (cent)
Tuesday 08 Jul at 1900 venue - Showcase at Coatbridge. (east)
Tuesday 05 Aug at 1900 venue - Phoenix Ret.Park Paisley.(west)
Tuesday 02 Sep at 1900 venue - The Quay (Cent)
By rotating through these different venues it should encourage more people to attend from different areas as they combine east, west and city centre locations.
Please add comments to the thread on how this sounds?
I will send out a new thread (reminder) for registering attendance a few days before the event with more exact details.
Cheers

Still fancy organising a Sunday run out to the Carbeth Inn to show the bikers how to do it!!!
Will get back to you on this one.
Loch Lomond Shores is a nice venue. We did have a meet there before that wasn't too successful. There also used to be meets at Cameron House, down at Breakers.
I have a chef for the BBQ but he may eat more than he cooks!!!!!!

Ok, How does this sound??
Lets all meet at Showcase this Tuesday or next Tuesday and once we are all there, we can discuss where we wanna go for the Sunday Meeting/drive?
We could either substitute the 6th May (Tues) for Sunday 11 May or keep the first Tuesday in every Month thing and have an extra day out on a Sunday say mid May (18 th Possibly)?
Thoughts on this folks??

Why not have it on a different day of the month to the Aberdeen gang. (First Tuesday of the month) That way if Edinburgh, Dundee, etc, get going with meets we can have some cross fertilization within the Scottish community Ie; we can start visiting other groups and have a good run in the process
I know a few of us from the North East would come down your way during the long summer days for one of your meets, assuming we were welcome of course

Of course anyones welcome. The more the merrier Jools. I think most folk feel the same no matter where you go...
Someone has already suggested a combined meet halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh (poss Falkirk area) so will need to wait and see how that one goes I think. Watch this space...
If that falls through, then the Glasgow meet will probably go it alone.
That's a good point you've made about different nights though. Then again, is there all that many folk willing to do the travelling? What nights do the rest of them have their gatherings?

Yeah 15th april suits me. Seems like alot of other people seem to be shy with the responses. Does'nt inspire alot of confidence in the meet up's. Good numbers at the last one too. Must be a new games console out or something. Sort it out troops!!.

Would have met up on the 15th but the SS-R club are having a monthly meet/feed at Livingston the same night. I will have young Skye with me and a few others will be bringing kids. They only started monthly meets recently and have been very successful. Tend to be at Brewers Fayre type places, very similar to the Scoobynet Monkton Hall meet at Xmas. When the better weather/longer evenings arrive then I am sure some scenic driving will be included. Sure a similar format will work fine here.
A BBQ near some scenic roads might be a good night out. I organised a last minute one at Dukes Pass for Scottish Elises by Aberfoyle one night last year and we had a great laugh both driving back and forwards along the Pass (along with quite a few bikers), and then getting tucked into some overdone grub. Nice drive back over the Campsies as well.

Count me in aslong as we try and keep the meets to a [b]DECENT
place, ie not Strathy park or retail parks. Dougsters idea sounds like a good one.
Whatever you decide let me know via the "old dog n bone"
No net access again.

I have an Apple iBook (New shape one) for sale if that's of any interest to you. 192 MB Ram, built in modem, 2xUSB, 1 x Firewire port, DVD drive, stereo speakers, Audio and Video leads, a spare battery (neither used much as usually run from mains), and a firewire CD/R writer. Cost about £1800 last year. Looking for around £600 to clear my overdraft. Used it to create some of the VCD stuff of Knockhill, Kames and Dukes Pass.
Cheers Iain

Sorry to be negative, but I'm gonna.....
If you have the meetings on an evening, and then have them all the way over on the east of Glasgow, it makes it difficult for the West Coasters to manage over.
I know there are loads of owners over by Edinburgh, and whilst it's nice to have them along, the whole idea is to encourage folks to attend. Geographically, a meeting on the far side of Glasgow is not going to encourage attendance from folks in the West.
Mmmmm, I must join SS-R, give that Marc fella some competition
