Unmarked Police M/bikes on A77, Ayr
Was driving along A77 yesterday evening probably averaging 80mph (oops), was passing a few slower moving vehicles, but wasn't thrashing it.
Most people when they see the bonnet scoop move out the road, which is nice, so to keep people on side, I will also pull in if I see someone travelling faster than me.
Anyway, saw two bikers coming up behind, one a sort of burgundy colour and the other one, dark blue. Did the usual, maintained my speed and pulled into the LH lane so they could pass. Noticed the front guy passing veeerrrryyyy sllloooowwwllly, turned to look at him and saw the POLICE sign on his helmet.Doh! He had a good look, checked out the no. plate by the look of things and then just rode off. Phew!
Anyway unmarked bikes, white helmets, black jackets, very difficult to spot when they are behind you. Keep your eyes peeled.
norry.

Guys
I'm on that road every day and haven't seen them yet? Maybe I'm just lucky? or is it because I'm a white van man?
I do the same, if anyone is travelling faster than me, around 70 - ish (honest officer), I pull in, let them pass and check them out. Better be safe than sorry. Besides, with the amount of road works going on, you'll be lucky to get to 40 MPH .
Mobile speed camera vans can't park in the layby near Fenwick hotel anymore because of road works, I wonder where their new site will be? Any ideas anyone?

Yep seen the biker cops on the '77 fairly regular, one blue, one red.
Noticed the other day on the M8 though, a couple of marked police bikes...... one rider had a darkened visor....... now,.... with all the hoohaa about tinted windows on cars, you'd think they'd lead by example..... is it not illegal for bikers to have dark visors?, i'm sure it is.

AFAIK, the bikes you are referring to are driver/rider training school bikes and are probably just soon-to-be-biker cops on their bike course.
When I did my driving course I was shown round the bikes, BMW's IIRC, or were they Pan Europeans?
Anyway, they are based at Jackton near East Kilbride and use the 77 a lot.
If they were bonafide undercover bikes, do you think they'd have police markings on them?

A friend of mine in "Traffic" told me a few months ago, that there's a burgundy coloured Honda Blackbird camera bike. It operates out of Glasgow though. Camera's at both front and rear.
Could have been one of the bikes you saw.
