Default Perth Optimax: 94.9 or 86.9 for you, sir??

FFS!!!!!!!!!

Don't know if this has come up before, but I was working in Perth yesterday.....

Straight down the A9, pulled into the shell garage at the start of Dunkeld road.....

Unleaded was 82.9, Optimax was 94.9!!
I thought Doune was bad enough at 88.7.

I actually called in to check with the staff to see if it was a mistake.... but no!!

So I took a wee detour to the Shell on Edinburgh road (the one beside Western Mitsti..... briefly experienced the supernatural magnetism of the dark side.... )

....where it was 86.9

Incredible..... fuel light was on, so I saved the best part of a fiver!!!!

I wonder if the price of the one on Dunkeld road has anything to do with the neighbouring Merc & BMW dealerships.......

The Perth Shell is 'Perth Services'. That's why they ramp the price - its always been pricy for Optimax. Did'nt know the Shell by Western Mish. did Optimax. I always use the Shell further into Edinburgh on the A8 if I'm on the west side. its open 24hrs including Christmas day!

They have nothing to do with it ,the garage is not owned by either.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!
2 trips down 2 Knockhill this weekend for SIDC & rally. We always need a top up after coming down A9, On sat i only minded reading this thread half way through filling up when suddenly noticing pump price Sun we just didn't have time 2 go looking 4 the other place & had 2 get fleeced again. Anyone able 2 give us some directions 2 the 1 on Edinburgh Road coming from the A9(Sorry don't know Perth that well) Can't afford 2 be paying that price petrol is enough as it is.

Cheers
Gee

These are pretty crap directions; from Multimap.com....
....from the EXPENSIVE Shell near where the A9 comes in from Inverness to the much cheaper one on Edinburgh Road.

Here's the picture of the map showing where the individual stages are (had to do a screen grab: the wee numbers disappear if you do "save image as"!!)

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin328/pix/perth.jpg

1
Depart on A912
for*1.2*miles
0*miles*(0*km)

2
Leave the roundabout onto A85 DUNKELD ROAD
for*0.4*miles
1.2*miles*(1.9*km)

3
Leave the roundabout onto A85 ATHOLL STREET
for*0.4*miles
1.6*miles*(2.6*km)

4
Continue straight ahead onto A93 TAY STREET
for*0.5*miles
2*miles*(3.2*km)

5
Turn right onto A989 MARSHALL PLACE
for*0.1*miles
2.5*miles*(4*km)

6
Turn left onto A912 EDINBURGH ROAD
for*0.4*miles
2.6*miles*(4.2*km)

7
Turn right onto SOUTH INCH TERRACE
for*0*miles
3*miles*(4.8*km)

8
Turn left onto INCH HEAD TERRACE
for*0*miles
3*miles*(4.8*km)

9
Arrive at your destination
for*0*miles
3*miles*(4.9*km)

Hope this might be a wee bit helpful for those not knowing Perth.... but it IS a bit of a pain, as you have to more or less head through the middle of town. Worth it to save 8 or 9p a litre on the golden juice though, if you're not in a hurry.

Also worth noting is that if you leave the Edinburgh Road Shell and want to join the M90 again heading towards Fife/Edinburgh, you CAN'T join it at the "spaghetti junction" bit just up the hill from the garage.... you have to carry on until the Bridge of Earn junction, which is a good few miles on. Nice, long downhill sweeping left-hander on the way if I remember correctly though

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that!!

I discovered this petrol station on Friday on my way up to Ft William. I knew that Optimaxis scarce so went in to top up. I could not believe the price. I went in and blew a gasket. Already had a rant here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=347951

Aye, we were staying in the holiday inn across from that Shell Garage when we were at the mcrae stages, it's a total rip off, their uinleaded is 3p a litre dearer than the ASDA along the road. We just filled the rally car at ASDA, got some funny looks tho!
