You got many unmarked police cars up here?
Planning a trip to Fort William and surrounding areas at the weekend and hope to take in the scenery as well as the great roads (hear the one to Mallaig is fantastic).
Here in Yorkshire we have a couple of unmarked (as well as badged up) Subaru's. Was hoping to make progress where roads and conditions allow (I dont mean driving like a lunatic or anything) but I hear you have quite a few unmarked police cars (Saab and BM's etc).
Anything to watch out for? Any roads that you can recommend that are breathtaking to keep the ladies happy?
Cheers
Rob

Plan your route
As I say have a look at your map as the road you are likely to take is the A84/A85 from Stirling up to Tyndrum then on through Glencoe which is a great road to drive, but this road is blocked due to a landslide between Lochearnhead and Lixtoll. Your best bet will be to go via Loch Lomond and cut accross to Crainlarich and then join the A84/A85 which is beyond the landslide(can't remember which one it is) and then proceed to tyndrum, glencoe and the fort william. Enjoy the road, there are no fixed speed cameras between stirling and tyndrum (no fixed in central scotland actually)although the traffic cars do sit on this road occasionally (travelled this road too many times in the last 3 years and seen traffic cars on it doing speed traps no more than 4 times. I always head to Oban from tyndrum and not into glencoe and fort william, when I have gone that way I cannot recall any fixed speed cameras but wouldnt put money or my licence on it
have spotted unmarked cars patroling this road a few times but cant remember what type of cars, sorry.
Hope this helps

If you're looking for spectacular scenery
A82 Spean Bridge to Invergarry, head west along
A87 Invergarry to Kirkton, then North onto
A890 Kirkton to New Kelso, now the best road in scotland,
A896 and follow the signs for APPLECROSS. Up through the Bealach Na Ba
Over the top of the mountain to APPLECROSS
Excuse the language bit it is F*ck*n Fantastic.
In the Guiness Book of Records. Steepest gradient road in the UK.
1:5 round some of the hairpins, it's mental.
Was up there last weekend on the bikes............WOW
P.S Do a google search on applecross just for a wee taster It rises to 2053ft in height, and is the most spectacular pass in Scotland. It also provides some of the most challenging driving in the country.

yea ulapool/ garve road is great for "progressive driving". Come north and see the sights of john o'groats and have a blast of the a9 tain to thurso (take a left past latherinwheel instead of going to wick ) and have a good drive! No cameras but there seems to be more camera vans eg skiterons usually burgandy for some reason on the dornoch bridge. But they do it in bursts and did one about a month ago so should be ok for 3/4 months.

My first time up there was when we went up to do a photoshoot on a house for one of the magazines I produce...I went for a drive and got this pic of my car
Great drive up and bit more careful back (to Edinburgh) as I was knackered!
Also found this site - http://www.remote.org/frederik/roadh...de=2e0&delay=7
it shows you a map on the left and then changes the image every 5 secs or so to show you the road all the way to Applecross Nicely done....
