Default Subaru Independant or Privateer - Dundee

Hi,
I have a friend in the Dundee area with a MY00 UK who's after some mechanical work to be done on his car. Can anyone recommend somewhere, or if there's anyone who does work privately, please let me know and I'll pass the info to him.

Cheers
Gerry

VAL113R uses a garage in Arbroath.
They are usually chock-a-block but he's always had good service (they're car nutters that work there/own the place).

I'll ask him the name of the place for you.

For a Subaru dealer, I can't see past Fiskins in Forfar.

All i would suggest is avoid AWD in Perth like te plague!

I would agree with Fiskens, but why avoid AWD?

i would reccomend AWD or kenneth melvilles, personally i would avoid fiskens unless you like someone else kicking the **** out of your pride and joy on a road test..oh and if you want to ask what the apprentice did... he found it funny he dropped a brand new avensis of the ramp(althou he has now been sacked, but not for that)

just my opinion

garage in arbroath is checkpoint, heard both good and bad, but never personally dealt with them

Hi

I would recommend Checkpoint in Arbroath. If you ask for Calum he will see you right. Tell him Nick from Disk Depot recommended him.

As Paul said he is usually chock a block but will manage to get you in somehow. What is it he is wanting done ?

3 for Checkpoint in Arbroath
2 for & 2 anti Fiskins in Forfar
3 for & 2 anti AWD
1 for Eden Subaru in Cupar
2 for Kenneth Melvile

Thanks for all the input. Not terribly conclusive but Checkpoint's looking favourite with no negatives We seem a lot more fortunate in the south with choice of some good independant specialists. Maybe it's time Andy Forrest got up and running on more than just mapping and a few ancilliary bits, he'd have quite a queue, me included

I'll pass this on to the guy and let him decide what's best

I doubt that will ever happen unless he gets someone else in to do the work. He told me he doesn't like doing the mechanical work as he makes more money mapping cars.

Give Calum a shout at Checkpoint I am sure he will sort your mate out with whatever he needs done.

cheers

Eden Subaru and AWD get both plus votes from me.

I use Eden Subaru as I stay in Fife and they are only 15 mins away. Top service from Russell who is a SIDC member, he will look after you.

Also just been to AWD, go there to get performace work carried out as they too have a fully equiped workshop and imho all they lack for me to go there all the time is a SUBARU dealer stamp in my service book. Give Grant a phone and he will sort you out.

Cheers

I use Kenneth Melville and have done for 3 years - I am very satisfied with the service and prices.
I have used AWD too for my big brake conversion and was good work.

I would get a quote first from whosoever you choose so thre are no "surprises".

AWD set my old MY99 UK Impreza (Full De-Cat + Panel) up to run nearly 1.5bar on standard internals when my friend (who got car from me) bought a Blitz Boost Controller from them.

Another vote for Eden Subaru here, its pretty much run by enthusiasts which makes a world of difference, IMHO.

Cheers,
Grant

My votes go to Eden Subaru in Fife - Russ is the man,
OR Kenneth Melville - One of their mechanics did all the work on my car & this guy is a perfectionist, excellent work
