any chance of you looking at your ECU to see what colour the sticker on it is.there is a thread in drivetrain and there are 3 ECU's for MY99/00 cars.

Black AE800 -best performance
Brown AE801 -good performance
Green AE802 -sh1te performance

as you seem to have the best standard ECUed MY00 at Star that I have seen,I am interested to see which type you have.

I have the p1sh green one

I'm offshore just now and will not be home until 5th Feb.

It has been mentioned before that mine seems to be one of the better (standard-ish) ones.

Don't know if it makes any difference but mine is a "UK Spec" euro import.

Don't even know where my ECU is!!!

I'll give you a shout when I get home.

Chris

it's under the carpet behind a plate in the passenger foot well, only takes 5mins to have a look at.all I did on mine was look under the glove box, just behind the door pillar and unscrewed the large plastic carpet clip, then picked out a trim clip on the door pillar and pealed the carpet back,10mm socket to remove the plate and you will see the ECU.

just give me a shout if you need any help.

I have always felt that from 99-V reg onwards, that there were alot of gutless cars around, although mostly noticed with MY00's.I used to think that the Euro's where the good ones, but have been told that Robertio's is a Euro.I now think that it may be that some cars were built in early 99 (T-reg time),stored and sold as later cars, this could be correct if they have the black or brown labelled ECU's.the latest ECU is supposed to be the green label, which I am now wondering went in some late 99 built onwards cars.side by side all the cars would look the same, with the earlier built cars getting that MY's upgrades for the forecourt.this is only my theory though .

Not sure about the theory of cars being built early 99 then "modded" to MY00 spec. Surely more hassle than it's worth to paint door handles, mirrors, interior centre console trim etc.

Read the post in drivetrain regarding the different ecu's, must admit mine does seem to hold the boost very well, probably boosts around 16 psi and holds about 14.5. Don't know if that might be relative?

I'm going to go for a Dawes now so it will be interestin to see how that goes.

Chris,

you would be surprised how long cars can sit before being registered .VW used to(may still) stamp the engine date and this could sometimes be two years out of date with reg date.others used to stamp the ashtray.

your seatbelt is supposed to give you a rough built date with scoobs.

just to let you know my car never goes over 15psi peak and holds 13/14psi(unless john banks has been near it ,then it's just below fuel cut 16 to 17 psi)

edit to add at Star peak and held are about 0.95bar

T-Uk,

I realise this has been done to death in the drivetrain section but I thought you might be interested.......

I've got an AE802 ecu with 01/00 seatbelt tags.

Is mine just a good example or are there other decent 802 ecu's out there?

Perhaps my boost gauge reads a couple of psi high and I'm giving false boost figures but I think my car flies. I will look out my last Star RR print out to check boost level.

As mine holds 14.5psi boost, will I see much difference fitting a Dawes?

If you are not too far away then perhaps we could compare cars?

Cheers,
Chris

Wink

cheers Chris,

thats my theory bolloxed .I have since fitted an AE800 and find the car so much better off boost.held boost is now roughly the same as the AE802 with higher peaks.

if you are going to Crail this month(this weekend I think) we could meet up and fit the Dawes to your car.if you are staying under fuel cut,I now do not think fuelling will be a problem.

T-uk,
Found out today my boost gauge reads 1-2psi high.
There might still be hope for your theory!
Still doesn't explain my relatively decent PaW figures at Star.
